5. Setup

Before operating your chainsaw, follow these steps to ensure it is properly set up and ready for use.

5.1 Battery Charging

  • Insert the 20V 4.0Ah batteries into the 1.8A dual charger.
  • Plug the charger into a standard electrical outlet.
  • Allow the batteries to charge fully before first use. The charger will indicate when charging is complete (refer to charger's indicator lights). A full charge typically takes approximately 2 hours per battery.

5.2 Chain Installation & Tensioning

The chainsaw comes with the guide bar and chain pre-installed, but it's crucial to check and adjust the tension before use.

  • Ensure the battery is removed from the chainsaw.
  • Locate the chain tensioning knob on the side of the chainsaw.
  • Turn the knob to adjust the chain tension. The chain should be snug against the guide bar but still able to be pulled freely by hand. There should be no slack on the underside of the guide bar.
  • Periodically check chain tension during operation, especially during the first few uses, as new chains can stretch.

5.3 Adding Bar & Chain Oil

  • Ensure the battery is removed.
  • Locate the oil tank cover on the chainsaw.
  • Unscrew the cover and fill the oil tank with high-quality bar and chain oil. Do not use motor oil or other lubricants, as they may damage the automatic oiling system.
  • Replace the oil tank cover securely.
  • Check the oil level regularly during operation and refill as needed. The automatic oiling system requires a constant supply of oil to function correctly.

6. Operating Instructions

Follow these instructions for safe and effective operation of your SEYVUM chainsaw.

6.1 Starting the Chainsaw

  • Ensure the battery is fully charged and securely inserted into the chainsaw.
  • Hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands, maintaining a balanced stance.
  • Press the safety switch lock button with your thumb.
  • While holding the safety switch, squeeze the main switch (trigger) to start the chainsaw. The chain will begin to move.

6.2 Cutting Techniques

Always exercise caution and follow safe cutting practices.

  • Limbing: When cutting branches, ensure the branch is stable. Cut from the top down to avoid pinching the bar.
  • Bucking: When cutting logs, ensure the log is securely supported. If cutting a log on the ground, avoid cutting into the ground, which can dull the chain.
  • Avoid Pinching: Be aware of the direction of pressure on the wood. If the wood closes on the chain, it can pinch the bar and stop the saw.
  • Kickback Prevention: Always be aware of the guide bar tip. Avoid contact with the tip, as this is the primary cause of kickback.

The SEYVUM chainsaw is effective for cutting logs and branches.

6.3 Stopping the Chainsaw

  • Release the main switch (trigger). The chain will stop moving.
  • For immediate stopping in case of kickback or emergency, activate the chain brake by pushing it forward.
  • Always remove the battery when the chainsaw is not in use, or before performing any adjustments or maintenance.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your SEYVUM chainsaw.

7.1 Chain Lubrication

  • The automatic oiling system requires regular refilling of the oil tank. Check the oil level frequently during operation.
  • Use only recommended bar and chain oil.

7.2 Chain Sharpening

  • A sharp chain is crucial for safe and efficient cutting. A dull chain will cause the saw to work harder, produce sawdust instead of chips, and increase the risk of kickback.
  • Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it when it becomes dull or damaged. Refer to a professional or specific chain sharpening guides for detailed instructions.

7.3 Cleaning

  • After each use, remove the battery and clean the chainsaw.
  • Remove sawdust, wood chips, and debris from the guide bar, chain, and motor housing. Use a brush or compressed air.
  • Wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

7.4 Storage

  • Store the chainsaw in a dry, secure location, out of reach of children and unauthorized users.
  • Ensure the battery is removed before storage. For long-term storage, store batteries partially charged (around 50%) in a cool, dry place.
