1. Introduction

3.2. Ports and Controls

4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to properly install your KOUENOM P12 mirror dash cam.

4.1. Mounting the Mirror Dash Cam

  1. Secure the mirror dash cam over your existing rearview mirror using the provided elastic straps. Ensure it is firmly attached and does not obstruct your view.
  2. Adjust the front camera lens to capture the desired view of the road ahead.

4.2. Connecting the Power Cable

  1. Connect the car charging cable to the Type-C power port on the top of the mirror dash cam.
  2. Plug the other end of the car charger into your vehicle's 12V power outlet (cigarette lighter socket).
  3. Route the power cable neatly along the headliner and A-pillar to conceal it and prevent interference with driving. Use the provided installation tool to tuck the cable.

4.3. Installing the Rear Camera

The rear camera is designed for external mounting, typically above the license plate. It is waterproof.

  1. Choose a suitable location for the rear camera, ensuring a clear view of the rear of your vehicle.
  2. Mount the rear camera securely using the provided screws or adhesive.
  3. Connect the rear camera cable to the rear camera.
  4. Route the rear camera cable from the rear of the vehicle to the mirror dash cam. This typically involves running the cable along the vehicle's interior trim, under the carpet, and up to the front.
  5. Connect the rear camera cable to the dedicated port on the mirror dash cam.
  6. Important: For reverse assistance functionality, connect the red wire from the rear camera cable to the positive lead of your vehicle's reversing light. This will automatically display the rear camera view with parking guidelines when you shift into reverse.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Power On/Off

  • The device will automatically power on and begin recording when your vehicle starts.
  • To manually power on/off, press and hold the power button located on the bottom of the unit.

5.2. Touch Screen Navigation

The 12-inch IPS touch screen provides intuitive control:

  • Swipe Left/Right: Switch between front camera view, rear camera view, or split-screen display.
  • Swipe Up/Down (on camera view): Adjust the vertical viewing angle of the selected camera.
  • Tap: Select icons or confirm actions.

5.3. CarPlay and Android Auto

Connect your smartphone wirelessly for seamless integration:

  1. On the dash cam's main screen, tap the 'CarPlay' or 'Android Auto' icon.
  2. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone. Search for the device name (e.g., 'T86PRO-2987') and connect.
  3. For CarPlay, ensure Wi-Fi is also enabled on your iPhone and connect to the device's Wi-Fi network.
  4. Follow any on-screen prompts to complete the connection.
  5. Once connected, you can access navigation, make calls, send messages, and stream music directly from the dash cam screen.

5.4. Voice Control

Utilize voice commands for safer driving:

  • Activate Siri or Google Assistant through the connected CarPlay/Android Auto interface.
  • Use commands like "Hey Siri, call [Contact Name]" or "Hey Google, navigate to [Destination]" to control your phone hands-free.

5.5. Audio Output Modes

Select your preferred audio output method:

  • FM Transmitter: Tune your car radio to an unused FM frequency and set the dash cam to the same frequency to transmit audio.
  • AUX Audio Cable: Connect the provided AUX cable from the dash cam's AUX port to your car's AUX input.
  • Bluetooth: If your car stereo supports Bluetooth, connect the dash cam to it via Bluetooth for audio output.
  • Built-in Speaker: The dash cam has its own speaker for audio playback.

5.6. Recording Features

  • Loop Recording: The camera continuously records, automatically overwriting the oldest unlocked files when the memory card is full. Recording segments can typically be set to 1, 3, or 5 minutes.
  • G-Sensor: Detects sudden impacts or collisions. When triggered, it automatically locks the current video segment to prevent it from being overwritten, preserving critical evidence.
  • 24H Parking Monitor: Provides continuous surveillance when your vehicle is parked. (Note: This feature may require a hardwire kit, not included, for continuous power.)
  • Reverse Assistance: When the red wire of the rear camera is connected to the reversing light, the screen will automatically display the rear view with adjustable parking guidelines when the vehicle is in reverse.

5.7. Display Settings

  • Brightness Adjustment: Adjust screen brightness manually or set it to 'Preset Model' for automatic adjustment based on time of day.
  • Screen Saver: Configure the screen saver to activate after 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, or turn it off. The screen will black out but continue recording.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Lens: Regularly clean the front and rear camera lenses with a soft, lint-free cloth to ensure clear recording quality.
  • Cleaning the Screen: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the touch screen. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
  • Memory Card Management: Periodically format the SD card (at least once a month) to maintain optimal performance and prevent data corruption. Back up any important footage before formatting.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the manufacturer's website for any available firmware updates to ensure your device has the latest features and bug fixes.
