Introduction
The ANCEL SP21 Spark Plug Tester is a diagnostic tool designed to quickly and accurately assess the firing quality of spark plugs. It features a dual-hole design, allowing for simultaneous testing and comparison of two spark plugs. This device simulates actual engine ignition conditions with an adjustable RPM range, providing clear visual feedback on spark intensity and consistency. It is an essential tool for identifying faulty spark plugs that may cause issues such as slow starts, weak acceleration, or high fuel consumption in various 12V gasoline engines.

Setup
Before operating the ANCEL SP21, ensure it is properly set up:
- Unpack the Device: Remove the spark plug tester and all accessories from the packaging.
- Connect Power: Plug the provided power cable into the power port on the tester and then into a standard 110-120V AC outlet.
- Prepare Spark Plugs: Ensure the spark plugs to be tested are clean and free from excessive carbon buildup or damage.
Operating Instructions
Follow these steps to test spark plugs using the ANCEL SP21:

Figure 3: Visual guide for operating the spark plug tester.
- Insert Spark Plugs: Place one or two spark plugs into the test holes (sockets). Both sockets must contain a spark plug for the unit to operate. Ensure they are seated firmly.
- Attach Protective Cover: Carefully place the clear protective cover over the spark plug sockets. The device will not function unless the cover is properly seated and activates the safety switch.
- Adjust Working Frequency (RPM): Turn the Knob Switch (6) to select the desired working frequency, simulating engine RPMs from 0 to 6000 RPM. A setting of 2000 RPM is often sufficient for general spark behavior testing. The higher the set frequency, the stronger the spark intensity.
- Initiate Test: Press and hold the main power button (part of the knob switch assembly) to begin the test.
- Observe Spark: Through the clear protective cover, observe the spark activity of the inserted spark plugs.
- A strong, consistent blue spark indicates a healthy spark plug.
- A weak, intermittent, or absent spark indicates a faulty or failing spark plug.
- The High Voltage Indicator Lights (3 & 4) will illuminate when high voltage is present at the respective spark plug socket. The Power Indicator (5) will show the device is on.
- Compare Results: The dual-hole design allows for direct comparison between two spark plugs, making it easier to identify a problematic plug.
- End Test: Release the power button to stop the test. Turn the Knob Switch to "OFF" when finished.

Safety Precautions
Adhere to the following safety guidelines when using the spark plug tester:
- Always Use Protective Cover: The clear protective cover is crucial for safety. It prevents accidental contact with high voltage and shields against sparks. Ensure it is properly installed before operating the device.
- High Voltage Warning: This device generates high voltage. Do not touch the spark plugs or the internal components while the tester is operating.
- Proper Ventilation: Use the tester in a well-ventilated area.
- Power Disconnection: Disconnect the power cable from the outlet when the tester is not in use or before performing any maintenance.
- Adult Use Only: This device is intended for use by adults with knowledge of automotive diagnostics.

Compatibility
The ANCEL SP21 Spark Plug Tester is compatible with most standard 12V gasoline engines and spark plugs with a 13mm insulator diameter. This includes, but is not limited to, spark plugs found in:
- Cars
- Motorcycles
- Lawnmowers
- ATVs
- Small engines
Important Note:
This spark plug tester is not compatible with very short spark plugs. Due to the plug length, the contacts may not reach the bottom of the testing port. If you are unsure about compatibility for a specific spark plug, please contact customer support.

Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and proper functioning of your ANCEL SP21 Spark Plug Tester:
- Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth after each use. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the tester in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep it in its original packaging or a protective case to prevent damage.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the power cable for any signs of damage. If the cable is damaged, discontinue use and contact customer support.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your ANCEL SP21 Spark Plug Tester, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No spark or weak spark during test. | Faulty spark plug; incorrect RPM setting; protective cover not fully seated; only one spark plug inserted. |
|
| Device does not power on. | Power cable not connected; power outlet issue; internal fault. |
|
| Spark plug does not fit or make contact. | Spark plug is too short or has an unusual design. |
