4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The TESMEN TOE-100DMAX requires 2 AAA batteries for operation. To install the batteries:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the bottom edge of the device, near the plug.
  2. Using a small screwdriver, carefully unscrew the retaining screw on the battery cover. Note that the screw may not fully detach.
  3. Once the screw is loosened, slide the battery cover away from the plug to open the compartment. Do not attempt to lift it directly.
  4. Insert the 2 AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  5. Slide the battery cover back into place and tighten the screw to secure it.

The device is now ready for use.

5. Operating Instructions

The TESMEN TOE-100DMAX offers multiple testing functions. Always ensure the device is properly connected to a live socket before performing any tests.

5.1 Basic Socket Test (Wiring and Voltage)

  1. Insert the TESMEN TOE-100DMAX into the electrical socket you wish to test.
  2. Press the Power button (⏻) to turn on the device.
  3. The LCD display will immediately show the measured voltage (VL-N) and the wiring status.
  4. Observe the wiring status indicators (L, E, N) and the text display (CORRECT, OPEN, REVERSE) to determine the socket's condition. Refer to Section 6 for detailed indicator explanations.
  5. The device also displays the voltage between Neutral and Earth (VN-E).

5.2 RCD (Residual Current Device) Test

The RCD test simulates a leakage current to verify if the RCD (also known as a Residual Current Circuit Breaker or RCCB) in your electrical system trips correctly and within the specified time.

  1. Ensure the TESMEN TOE-100DMAX is securely plugged into the socket.
  2. Press the RCD Test button.
  3. The device will simulate a leakage current (typically 30mA for standard RCDs).
  4. Observe if the RCD in your electrical panel trips. If it trips, the display will show the trip time in milliseconds (ms).
  5. If the RCD does not trip, or if the trip time is outside acceptable limits (e.g., 10-1000ms), this indicates a potential issue with the RCD or the electrical installation.
  6. After the test, reset your RCD in the electrical panel.

Important: Performing an RCD test will intentionally trip the RCD, cutting power to the circuit. Ensure all sensitive equipment is safely shut down or disconnected before initiating this test.

5.3 Data Hold Function

The TESMEN TOE-100DMAX features a data hold function. After removing the tester from the socket, the last measured results will remain visible on the screen for a short period. This is useful for quick comparisons or recording data.

6. Understanding the Display Indicators

The LCD display provides clear visual feedback on the socket's status:

  • Green Backlight: Indicates correct wiring.
  • Orange Backlight: Indicates a wiring error.
