4. Setup Guide
4.1 Before You Begin
- Ensure your fiber optic modem (or DSL/cable modem) is installed and operational.
- Turn off your existing modem and any other network devices before connecting the FRITZ!Box.
- Locate a suitable place for your FRITZ!Box, preferably central to your home for optimal Wi-Fi coverage.
4.2 Connecting Your FRITZ!Box 4690

- Step 1: Power Connection
Connect the included power adapter to the "Power" port on the rear of the FRITZ!Box and plug it into an electrical outlet. The "Power/Internet" LED on the front will light up. - Step 2: WAN/Internet Connection
Connect your fiber optic modem (or DSL/cable modem) to the blue "WAN" port (10G) on the rear of the FRITZ!Box using an Ethernet cable. - Step 3: LAN Connections (Optional)
For wired devices like computers, gaming consoles, or network storage, connect them to the yellow "LAN 1" (10G) or "LAN 2-4" (2.5G) ports using Ethernet cables. - Step 4: DECT/Telephone Connections (Optional)
If you have analog telephones or fax machines, connect them to the "Fon 1" or "Fon 2" ports. For DECT cordless phones, you will register them wirelessly later. - Step 5: USB Devices (Optional)
Connect USB storage devices or printers to the USB 3.0 port on the side of the FRITZ!Box for network sharing.

Once connected, wait for the "Power/Internet" LED to become solid green, indicating a successful internet connection. The "WLAN" LED will also light up when Wi-Fi is active.
4.3 Initial Configuration
To access the FRITZ!Box user interface for initial setup and advanced settings:
- Connect a computer or smartphone to the FRITZ!Box via Wi-Fi (use the Wi-Fi network name and password printed on the bottom of the device) or via an Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports.
- Open a web browser and enter
http://fritz.boxorhttp://192.168.178.1in the address bar. - Enter the FRITZ!Box password (also found on the bottom of the device) when prompted.
- Follow the on-screen wizard to complete the initial setup, including internet access configuration, Wi-Fi settings, and setting a new password for the user interface.
5. Operation
5.1 Wi-Fi Configuration
The FRITZ!Box 4690 supports Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi Mesh. You can manage your Wi-Fi settings, including network name (SSID), password, and guest access, through the "Wi-Fi" menu in the FRITZ!Box user interface. For optimal coverage, ensure Wi-Fi Mesh is active if you have other FRITZ! products.
5.2 DECT Telephony
To register a DECT cordless phone, navigate to the "Telephony" > "DECT" menu in the FRITZ!Box interface. Follow the instructions to register your phone. You can also configure answering machines and call diversions here.
5.3 Smart Home Integration
The FRITZ!Box allows you to control compatible Smart Home devices. Access the "Smart Home" menu to add and manage devices such as smart plugs, lights, and thermostats.
5.4 Network Storage (NAS)
By connecting a USB storage device to the FRITZ!Box, you can create network-attached storage (NAS). This allows all devices in your network to access files on the USB drive. Configure access rights and media server options under the "Home Network" > "USB / Storage" menu.
