2. Key Features

  • Ultra-High-Speed M.2 All-Flash Design: Supports PCIe protocol-based solid-state drives, overcoming traditional SATA speed limitations.
  • 40Gbps Bandwidth: Equipped with a USB 4.0 interface, enabling individual disk transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps when four disks operate simultaneously. This enhances efficiency for professional tasks like film production and music editing.
  • Compact and Portable: M.2 all-flash design reduces overall volume by over 50% compared to 3.5-inch mechanical hard drive enclosures. Its solid-state structure provides excellent shock resistance.
  • Silent Operation: Solid-state drives eliminate rotational noise, contributing to a quieter working environment. Fan noise is maintained below 30 decibels.
  • High-Capacity Storage: Supports M-Key NVMe SSDs (2230/2242/2260/2280 specifications), allowing up to 8TB per drive for a total capacity of 32TB across four drives. Note: SSDs are not included.
  • Advanced Thermal Dissipation: Features an all-aluminum alloy housing, a built-in cooling fan, and strategically placed heat dissipation vents for stable, high-performance operation under continuous workloads.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Data Transfer

Once the SSDs are installed, initialized, and formatted, they will appear as individual drives on your computer. You can drag and drop files, use backup software, or utilize them as primary storage for applications requiring high-speed access.

5.2 Drive Management

The ORICO 8848U4 presents each installed SSD as an independent drive. For advanced configurations such as RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks), you will need to use your operating system's software RAID capabilities or third-party software. The enclosure itself does not feature hardware RAID functionality.

5.3 Power Management

The enclosure is designed for continuous operation. It features an independent power adapter to ensure stable power delivery. Always ensure the power adapter is securely connected during operation.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

To clean the enclosure, use a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish or internal components.

6.2 Heat Dissipation

The enclosure features an aluminum alloy housing and a built-in cooling fan to manage heat. Ensure that the front and rear ventilation vents are not obstructed to allow for proper airflow. Maintaining good ventilation helps ensure long-term stable performance.

6.3 Drive Handling

While SSDs are inherently more shock-resistant than traditional hard drives, handle the enclosure with care. Avoid dropping or subjecting it to strong impacts.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your ORICO 8848U4 enclosure, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Drives Not Detected:
    • Ensure the power adapter is securely connected and the enclosure is powered on.
    • Verify that the data cable is properly connected to both the enclosure and a compatible port on your computer (USB 4.0 or Thunderbolt).
    • Check if the M.2 SSDs are correctly seated in their trays and secured with screws.
    • Access your computer's Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS) to see if the drives are recognized but require initialization or formatting.
    • Try using a different data cable or connecting to a different port on your computer.
  • Slow Transfer Speeds:
    • Ensure you are connected to a USB 4.0 or Thunderbolt port on your computer. Older USB standards will result in lower speeds.
    • Verify that your SSDs are NVMe M.2 drives, as SATA M.2 drives will have lower performance.
    • Check for background processes or other devices consuming bandwidth on your USB/Thunderbolt bus.
    • Ensure the enclosure's ventilation is not obstructed to prevent thermal throttling.
  • Enclosure Overheating:
    • Ensure adequate space around the enclosure for proper airflow.
    • Verify that the cooling fan is operating.
    • Avoid placing the enclosure in direct sunlight or confined spaces.
  • 'No Media' Error (Windows Disk Management):
    • This error often indicates that the drive is not properly initialized or has a partition issue. Right-click on the disk in Disk Management and select 'Initialize Disk' or 'New Simple Volume' to format it.
    • If the issue persists, try reinstalling the SSD in the tray or testing it in another compatible enclosure/system to rule out a drive fault.
