3. Setup and Installation

3.1 Ring Battery Doorbell Setup

The Ring Battery Doorbell is designed for easy installation, typically taking around 5 minutes. It operates on a built-in rechargeable battery, with an option for hardwiring for continuous charging.

  1. Charge the Battery: Before installation, fully charge the built-in battery using the provided USB-C charging cable. Simply detach the doorbell from its mounting plate (if already installed) and connect the cable.
  2. Mounting: Secure the mounting bracket to your desired location using the provided installation tools and hardware. Ensure the location provides a clear view and good Wi-Fi signal.
  3. Attach Doorbell: Once the bracket is secure, slide the Battery Doorbell unit onto the mounting bracket until it clicks into place.
  4. Hardwiring (Optional): For continuous charging, you can hardwire the doorbell to an existing doorbell system or transformer (8-24 VAC, 40VA max, 50/60Hz). Consult a qualified electrician if unsure.

3.2 Ring Outdoor Cam Plus Setup

The Ring Outdoor Cam Plus (Battery) is designed for flexible outdoor placement, with an estimated installation time of 10 minutes.

  1. Charge Battery Pack: Ensure the Quick Release Battery Pack is fully charged using the provided Micro USB Charging Cable.
  2. Insert Battery: Insert the charged Quick Release Battery Pack into the Outdoor Cam Plus unit.
  3. Choose Location: Select a suitable vertical or horizontal surface for mounting. Consider areas that provide optimal viewing angles and Wi-Fi coverage.
  4. Mounting: Use the provided installation hardware to securely mount the camera.
  5. In-App Setup: Open the Ring app and follow the on-screen instructions to add your Outdoor Cam Plus, connect it to your Wi-Fi network, and configure settings.

4. Operating Your Devices

Both the Ring Battery Doorbell and Outdoor Cam Plus offer a range of features to enhance your home security.

4.1 Live View and Two-Way Talk

Access live video streams from your devices at any time through the Ring app. The two-way talk feature with noise cancellation allows you to communicate with visitors or deter unwanted activity directly from your smartphone or tablet.

4.2 Motion Detection and Smart Alerts

Receive real-time alerts on your phone when motion is detected. Both devices feature advanced motion detection with customizable motion zones. With a Ring Protect subscription (sold separately), you can enable Smart Alerts for person and package detection, providing more specific notifications.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Battery Charging

For optimal performance, ensure the batteries in both your Ring Battery Doorbell and Outdoor Cam Plus are adequately charged. The Battery Doorbell uses a built-in rechargeable battery with a USB-C port, while the Outdoor Cam Plus uses a Quick Release Battery Pack charged via Micro USB. Recharge as needed based on usage and notification frequency.

5.2 Cleaning

Periodically clean the camera lenses and device surfaces with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and smudges. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the device.

5.3 Operating Conditions

Both devices are designed to operate within a temperature range of -4°F to 122°F (-20°C to 50°C). Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or extreme heat may temporarily affect device performance. Ensure proper ventilation around the devices.

If you encounter issues with your Ring devices, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power/Device Not Turning On: Ensure batteries are fully charged. If hardwired, verify the power source is active and meets specifications (8-24 VAC for doorbell).
  • Connectivity Issues: Check your Wi-Fi signal strength at the device location. Ensure your router is functioning correctly and the devices are within range. Both devices support 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, and the Outdoor Cam Plus also supports 5.0GHz and Wi-Fi 6.
  • Poor Video Quality: Verify your internet upload speed meets the recommended minimum (2 Mbps for doorbell, 3.5 Mbps for Outdoor Cam Plus). Video resolution may vary with bandwidth.
  • Motion Detection Not Working: Review motion zone settings in the Ring app. Ensure motion detection is enabled. Check for obstructions in the camera's field of view.
  • Two-Way Talk Issues: Check microphone and speaker settings in the Ring app. Ensure there are no physical obstructions.
  • Missing Components: If any parts were missing upon arrival, contact Ring Support immediately.
