Maintenance
Filter Cleaning
Regular cleaning of the filter sponge is crucial for maintaining water quality. If the pump stops working or the water flow decreases, it is time to clean the pump and filter sponge. Always unplug the pump before removal.
- Unplug the water pump from its power source.
- Carefully remove the water pump and filter sponge from the tank.
- Rinse the filter sponge thoroughly with old tank water (from a water change) or dechlorinated tap water to remove accumulated debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals.
- Clean any debris from the pump impeller and housing.
- Reassemble the pump and filter sponge, ensuring the pump is fully submerged when placed back into the tank.
- Plug the pump back in.
Water Changes
Perform partial water changes (25-50%) weekly to maintain optimal water parameters. Use a gravel vacuum to remove debris from the substrate during water changes. Always use dechlorinated water when refilling the tank.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Water pump not working or weak flow. | Not fully submerged, clogged impeller, power issue. | Ensure pump is fully submerged. Unplug, clean impeller and housing. Check power connection. |
| LED light not turning on. | Power transformer issue, loose connection, faulty LED. | Check USB connection. Ensure transformer is compatible (5V, not fast charging). Try a different compatible transformer. |
| Water appears cloudy. | New tank syndrome, overfeeding, insufficient filtration, infrequent water changes. | Perform a partial water change. Reduce feeding. Clean filter. Ensure proper cycling for new tanks. |
| Water temperature is too high. | LED light generating heat, external heat source. | Consider reducing LED light usage or brightness. Ensure tank is not in direct sunlight or near a heater. |
