Setup and Installation

  1. Prepare the Pipe: Ensure the pipe end is clean, free of burrs, and cut squarely.
  2. Mark the Insertion Depth: For proper connection, mark the pipe to indicate the correct insertion depth. Refer to the product packaging or SharkBite's official resources for specific depth requirements for your pipe size.
  3. Push to Connect: Firmly push the pipe into the check valve until it reaches the marked insertion depth. You will feel a slight resistance as the pipe passes the O-ring and then a firm stop as it engages with the stainless steel teeth.
  4. Verify Connection: Once inserted, pull back on the pipe to ensure it is securely seated. A properly installed connection will not pull out.
  5. System Test: After installation, slowly pressurize the plumbing system and check for any leaks.

The SharkBite Max check valve can be installed in wet lines, making repairs easier. For underground or behind-the-wall applications, ensure the fitting is properly wrapped as required by local codes to protect it from environmental factors.

Operating Principles

The SharkBite Max Check Valve is a one-way valve designed to allow fluid flow in only one direction, preventing backflow. It utilizes a spring-loaded mechanism that opens when pressure from the intended flow direction exceeds the spring's resistance and closes when flow stops or reverses.

This valve is ideal for applications where preventing reverse water flow is critical, such as in hot water recirculation systems or to protect pumps from back-siphoning.

Maintenance

SharkBite Max fittings are designed for long-term, maintenance-free operation once properly installed. The lead-free DZR brass construction and reinforced stainless steel components ensure corrosion resistance and durability.

If a fitting needs to be removed or adjusted, a SharkBite disconnect clip or tool is required. Insert the disconnect clip over the pipe and against the fitting's release collar, then push the collar towards the fitting body while pulling the pipe out. This allows for easy disassembly without damaging the pipe or fitting.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Leak at connection pointPipe not fully inserted; pipe end not clean or burr-free; damaged O-ring.Ensure pipe is fully inserted to the correct depth. Re-cut and clean pipe end if necessary. Inspect O-ring for damage; replace fitting if O-ring is compromised.
No flow or restricted flowValve installed in reverse direction; debris inside valve; spring mechanism stuck.Verify the flow arrow on the valve aligns with the intended direction of water flow. Disassemble and inspect for debris. If the spring is stuck, the valve may need replacement.
Difficulty removing fittingIncorrect use of disconnect tool; insufficient pressure on release collar.Ensure the SharkBite disconnect clip or tool is fully engaged and pressing the release collar evenly. Apply firm, steady pressure.
