4. Setup & Installation

This UV purifier is designed for under-sink installation and should be added as a final stage to your existing water filtration system. It features G1/4" MNPT inlet/outlet connections.

4.1 Pre-Installation Checklist

  • Ensure all components are present and undamaged.
  • Turn off the main water supply to your home or the specific cold water line where the unit will be installed.
  • Relieve water pressure by opening a nearby faucet.
  • Have necessary tools ready (e.g., wrench, Teflon tape, drill for mounting).

4.2 Installation Steps

  1. Mount the UV Chamber: Use the provided mounting clips to securely attach the UV chamber to a sturdy surface under your sink. Ensure there is enough space for future lamp replacement.
  2. Connect Water Lines:
    • Connect the outlet of your existing water purifier to the inlet (G1/4") of the ALTHY UVF-FS11 system.
    • Connect the outlet (G1/4") of the ALTHY UVF-FS11 system to your drinking water faucet.
    • Use appropriate fittings and Teflon tape to ensure leak-free connections.
  3. Install UV Lamp and Quartz Sleeve:
    • Carefully insert the quartz sleeve into the UV chamber.
    • Place the silicone O-ring correctly to ensure a watertight seal.
    • Gently insert the Philips 11W UV-C lamp into the quartz sleeve. Avoid touching the lamp with bare hands; use gloves or a clean cloth.
    • Secure the lamp and sleeve assembly with the retaining nut/cap.
  4. Connect Electrical Components:
    • Connect the UV lamp to the UVC Ballast.
    • Connect the Smart Flow Control Switch (flow sensor) to the UVC Ballast.
    • Plug the UVC Ballast into a grounded 110V-240V electrical outlet.
  5. Check for Leaks: Slowly turn on the main water supply. Inspect all connections for leaks. Tighten any leaking connections as needed.
  6. Initial Flush: After installation, open your drinking water faucet and allow water to flow through the system for 2-3 minutes to flush out any air or carbon fines.

5. Operating Instructions

The ALTHY UVF-FS11 features an intelligent smart flow sensor for automatic operation and energy efficiency.

5.1 Automatic Operation

  • When water flows through the UV chamber, the smart flow sensor detects the flow, and the UV lamp automatically turns on.
  • The ballast display panel will show a countdown timer.
  • When water flow stops, the UV lamp will remain on for an additional 600 seconds (10 minutes). This ensures that any residual water in the chamber receives full UV treatment.
  • After the 600-second countdown completes, the UV lamp will automatically turn off to save energy and prolong lamp life.
  • The lamp will immediately turn back on when water flow is detected again.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the continued effectiveness and longevity of your ALTHY UVF-FS11 system.

6.1 UV Lamp Replacement

  • The Philips 11W UV-C lamp has an estimated lifespan of up to 8,000 hours.
  • It is recommended to replace the UV lamp annually to ensure optimal purification performance, even if it appears to be working. The ballast display may indicate when replacement is due.
  • Replacement Procedure:
    1. Disconnect power to the unit.
    2. Turn off the water supply and relieve pressure.
    3. Carefully remove the retaining nut/cap and pull out the old UV lamp.
    4. Gently slide out the quartz sleeve and clean it thoroughly (see 6.2).
    5. Insert the new Philips 11W UV-C lamp into the clean quartz sleeve.
    6. Reassemble the unit in reverse order of installation.
    7. Turn on water and power, then check for leaks.

6.2 Quartz Sleeve Cleaning

  • The quartz sleeve should be cleaned regularly, at least annually during lamp replacement, or more frequently if water quality is poor.
  • Mineral deposits or sediment on the quartz sleeve can reduce the effectiveness of the UV light.
  • Cleaning Procedure:
    1. Disconnect power and water supply.
    2. Remove the UV lamp and then carefully slide out the quartz sleeve.
    3. Clean the quartz sleeve with a soft cloth and a mild descaling solution (e.g., vinegar or citric acid) to remove any mineral buildup. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
    4. Inspect the quartz sleeve for cracks or damage. Replace if damaged.
    5. Reinstall the clean quartz sleeve and UV lamp.
