- Lift-and-Turn Stopper
- Drain Shoe Assembly (including gasket and nut)
- Overflow Tube
- All necessary hardware for installation
Setup and Installation
Tools Required: Plumber's putty, adjustable wrench, screwdriver, pipe wrench, rags.
- Prepare the Bathtub: Ensure the bathtub drain and overflow openings are clean and free of debris.
- Install Overflow Assembly:
- Attach the overflow tube to the back of the two-hole faceplate.
- Apply a thin bead of plumber's putty around the back of the overflow plate or use the provided gasket.
- Insert the overflow tube into the bathtub's overflow opening and secure the faceplate with the provided screws.
- Install Drain Shoe Assembly:
- Apply plumber's putty to the underside of the drain flange.
- Insert the drain flange into the bathtub's drain opening from the top.
- From underneath the tub, slide the rubber gasket and then the friction washer onto the drain shoe.
- Thread the large nut onto the drain shoe and tighten it securely with a pipe wrench, ensuring a watertight seal. Wipe away any excess plumber's putty.
- Connect Overflow and Drain Shoe:
- Connect the overflow tube to the drain shoe assembly using the slip joint connection. Ensure all connections are hand-tightened, then use an adjustable wrench to tighten slightly more, being careful not to overtighten.
- Install Lift-and-Turn Stopper:
- Thread the lift-and-turn stopper into the drain flange. Adjust the stopper height as needed to ensure proper sealing and draining.
- Test for Leaks: Fill the bathtub with water and check all connections for leaks. Tighten any leaking connections as necessary.
Operating Instructions
The tub drain kit features a lift-and-turn stopper for easy operation:
- To Close the Drain: Push down on the stopper and turn it clockwise until it locks into the closed position.
- To Open the Drain: Turn the stopper counter-clockwise until it unlocks, then lift it up to allow water to drain.
Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and proper function of your tub drain kit.
- Cleaning: Clean the brushed nickel finish with a soft cloth and mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or scouring pads, as these can damage the finish.
- Stopper Maintenance: Periodically remove the lift-and-turn stopper by unscrewing it from the drain. Clean any hair or debris that may have accumulated around the stopper and inside the drain opening.
- Seal Inspection: Occasionally inspect the seals and connections for any signs of wear or leaks.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your tub drain kit, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Slow Draining:
- Cause: Hair or debris buildup in the drain.
- Solution: Remove the stopper and clear any obstructions from the drain.
- Stopper Not Sealing:
- Cause: Stopper not adjusted correctly or debris preventing a seal.
- Solution: Remove the stopper, clean it, and re-thread it, adjusting its height until it seals properly.
- Leaks Around Drain or Overflow:
- Cause: Loose connections or improperly applied plumber's putty/gaskets.
- Solution: Tighten all connections. If leaks persist, disassemble, reapply plumber's putty or replace gaskets, and reassemble.
