Introduction

Welcome to the user manual for your new Microsoft Surface Pro 2-in-1 Laptop/Tablet (2025). This device is designed to offer the power of a laptop with the flexibility of a tablet, running on Windows 11 as a Copilot+ PC. What's in the Box

Upon unboxing your Microsoft Surface Pro, please ensure all the following items are present:

  • Microsoft Surface Pro 12" Device
  • USB-C Charging Cable
  • Quick Start Guide (QSG)
  • Safety and Warranty Documents

Note: The power adapter/charger is not included and must be purchased separately. A minimum of 27W USB Power Delivery (PD) charger is required.

Setup

1. Initial Charging

Before first use, it is recommended to fully charge your Surface Pro. Connect the provided USB-C charging cable to the device's USB-C port and then to a compatible USB Power Delivery (PD) charger (sold separately). Ensure the charger provides at least 27W for optimal charging.

2. Powering On

Press and hold the power button located on the side of the device until the Microsoft logo appears on the screen.

3. Initial Windows Setup

Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the Windows 11 setup process. This includes selecting your region, language, connecting to a Wi-Fi network, and signing in with or creating a Microsoft account. You will also be guided through setting up Windows Hello (facial recognition or fingerprint, if available) and Copilot+ PC features.

4. Connecting Accessories (Optional)

The Surface Pro is compatible with various accessories (sold separately) to enhance your experience:

  • Surface Pro Keyboard: To transform your device into a laptop, align the keyboard connector with the port on the bottom edge of the Surface Pro and gently push until it clicks into place.
  • Surface Slim Pen: For writing, drawing, and navigation, the Slim Pen can be paired via Bluetooth. Refer to the pen's specific instructions for pairing.

Operating Your Surface Pro

Modes of Operation

The Surface Pro offers versatile usage modes:

  • Tablet Mode: Use the device as a standalone tablet for touch-based interactions, browsing, and media consumption.
  • Laptop Mode: Attach the Surface Pro Keyboard (sold separately) to use it as a traditional laptop with a physical keyboard and trackpad.
  • Studio Mode: Utilize the built-in 165-degree fluid kickstand to position the screen at an optimal angle for drawing or writing with the Surface Slim Pen.

Display and Interaction

The 12-inch PixelSense LCD touchscreen delivers vibrant colors and crisp details. You can interact with the device using touch gestures, the optional Surface Slim Pen, or the keyboard and trackpad.

Powered by the Snapdragon X Plus processor and an AI engine capable of up to 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS), your Surface Pro offers smooth and responsive performance for everyday tasks, web browsing, video streaming, and productivity with Microsoft 365 apps.

As a Copilot+ PC, your device includes built-in AI tools in Windows 11 to help you:

Battery Life

Maintenance

Cleaning Your Device

To keep your Surface Pro in optimal condition:

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or an approved screen cleaner to wipe the display.
  • For the body of the device, use a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
  • Ensure all ports are free of dust and debris.

Software Updates

Regularly check for and install Windows updates to ensure your device has the latest features, security patches, and performance improvements. Go to Settings > Windows Update to check for updates.

Battery Care

To maximize battery lifespan:

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions

  • Device not turning on: Ensure the device is charged. Connect the charger and wait a few minutes before attempting to power on again.
  • Screen not responding: Try restarting the device. If unresponsive, press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds until it shuts down, then restart.
  • Slow performance: Close unnecessary applications, check for Windows updates, or restart the device.
  • Wi-Fi connectivity issues: Restart your Wi-Fi router and the Surface Pro. Check network settings in Windows.
