3. Installation Guide

This section outlines the general installation process. Professional installation is recommended if you are unfamiliar with car audio systems.

3.1 Compatibility

This head unit is compatible with Dodge RAM 1500 and 2500 models manufactured between 2002 and 2005.

3.2 Pre-Installation Steps

  1. Disconnect Battery: Before starting, disconnect the negative terminal of your vehicle's battery to prevent electrical shorts.
  2. Remove Old Head Unit: Carefully remove the existing factory radio and trim panels using the provided crowbar and screwdriver. Refer to your vehicle's service manual for specific instructions on panel removal.

3.3 Wiring Connections

Connect the provided wiring harness to the vehicle's factory harness. Ensure all connections are secure. The included Can Bus decoder facilitates integration with vehicle systems.

  • Power Cable: Connect the main power harness.
  • RCA Cables: For external amplifiers or video outputs.
  • USB Cables: For data transfer or charging devices.
  • GPS Module: Connect the GPS antenna and mount it in a location with a clear view of the sky (e.g., dashboard).
  • Backup Camera: Connect the reversing line and camera power.
  • Antenna: Connect the radio antenna and adapter cable.
  • External Microphone: Connect for improved call quality.

3.4 Mounting the Head Unit

Once all connections are made, carefully slide the head unit into the dashboard opening and secure it with screws. Reinstall any trim panels removed earlier.

3.5 Post-Installation

Reconnect the vehicle's battery. Turn on the ignition and test the head unit's basic functions.

Important Note:

If your car's power plug matches the one shown in Figure 3.3 and you experience no sound after installation, you may require an alternative power harness. Please contact AWESAFE customer support for assistance.

4. Initial Setup and Configuration

After successful installation, perform the following initial setup steps:

  1. Power On: Turn on your vehicle's ignition. The head unit should power on automatically.
  2. Language Settings: Follow the on-screen prompts to select your preferred language.
  3. Wi-Fi Connection: Navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi. Connect to an available Wi-Fi network to enable online features, app downloads, and map updates.
  4. Date and Time: Set the correct date and time, or enable automatic synchronization via network.
  5. GPS Calibration: Ensure the GPS module is properly connected and placed. The system will automatically acquire satellite signals for navigation.

5. Operating Instructions

This section details the primary functions of your AWESAFE Android 13 Head Unit.

5.1 Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto

Connect your iPhone or Android phone wirelessly or via USB for a seamless in-car experience.

  1. Wireless Connection: Enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on your smartphone. On the head unit, open the CarPlay/Android Auto application. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your phone via Bluetooth. Once paired, the system will establish a Wi-Fi connection for full functionality.
  2. USB Connection: Connect your smartphone to one of the head unit's USB ports using a compatible USB cable. The system should automatically launch CarPlay or Android Auto.

Once connected, you can use voice commands or the touchscreen to access navigation, make calls, send messages, and play music.

5.2 GPS Navigation

The head unit supports online and offline navigation. After connecting to Wi-Fi, you can download maps and use GPS navigation anywhere.

  1. Online Maps: With an active Wi-Fi connection, use pre-installed map applications or download your preferred navigation apps from the application store.
  2. Offline Maps: Download map data for specific regions to use navigation without an internet connection.

5.3 Bluetooth Connectivity

Connect your smartphone via Bluetooth for hands-free calling and audio streaming.

  1. Pairing: Go to the Bluetooth menu on the head unit. Enable Bluetooth on your phone and search for available devices. Select the head unit (usually named 'AWESAFE' or similar) and confirm the pairing code.
  2. Hands-Free Calling: Once paired, you can answer/make calls directly from the head unit. The built-in microphone captures your voice, and car speakers output the audio.
  3. Audio Streaming: Play music from your phone through the car's speakers. Control playback (play/pause, skip) from the head unit.

5.4 FM Radio

Access local radio stations with the built-in FM tuner.

  1. Scan: Use the auto-scan function to find and save available radio stations.
  2. Manual Tuning: Manually tune to specific frequencies.

5.5 Backup Camera

5.6 Steering Wheel Control

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your head unit.

  • Screen Cleaning: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the touchscreen. For stubborn smudges, slightly dampen the cloth with water or a screen-safe cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Software Updates: Periodically check for software updates via the system settings when connected to Wi-Fi. Updates can improve performance, add features, and fix bugs.
  • General Care: Avoid exposing the unit to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight for prolonged periods, or excessive moisture.

7. Troubleshooting
