  1. Threaded Rod: The central stainless steel rod that provides the pressing force.
  2. Pressure Blocks: Two aluminum alloy blocks that distribute pressure evenly. One side is flat for general pressing, and the other has a sinking table design to reduce pressure on bearings during installation.
  3. Plane Thrust Bearing: Located within one of the pressure blocks, this bearing facilitates smooth rotation and reduces friction during pressing.
  4. Detachable Handles: Two knurled aluminum alloy handles that attach to the central body of the tool for manual operation.
  5. Nut/Spacer: A hexagonal nut or spacer used to adjust the length and secure components on the threaded rod.

3. Setup and Preparation

Before using the tool, ensure all components are clean and free from debris. Proper setup is crucial for safe and effective operation.

  1. Inspect Components: Verify that the threaded rod, pressure blocks, and handles are in good condition, without any signs of damage or excessive wear.
  2. Lubricate Threads: Apply a small amount of grease to the threads of the stainless steel rod to ensure smooth operation and prevent galling.
  3. Assemble Handles: Screw the two detachable handles onto the central body of the tool. Ensure they are tightened securely by hand.
  4. Prepare Pressure Blocks: Determine which side of the pressure block is appropriate for your installation. For press-fit bottom brackets, the side with the sinking table design is often used to protect the bearing. For headsets, the flat side is typically suitable.

4. Operating Instructions

This tool is designed for installing bicycle headsets and press-fit bottom brackets. Always refer to your bicycle component manufacturer's specific instructions for torque specifications and component orientation.

4.1. Headset Installation

  1. Clean Head Tube: Ensure the bicycle's head tube is clean and free of old grease or debris. Apply a thin layer of grease to the inside of the head tube cups if recommended by the headset manufacturer.
  2. Position Headset Cups: Place the headset cups into the head tube openings.
  3. Assemble Tool: Slide one pressure block onto the threaded rod, followed by a headset cup, the head tube, the second headset cup, and finally the second pressure block. Ensure the plane thrust bearing is positioned to facilitate smooth pressing.
  4. Align Components: Carefully align the headset cups with the head tube. Misalignment can cause damage.
  5. Apply Pressure: Hold the tool with both hands on the handles. Slowly and evenly turn the handles to apply pressure, pressing the headset cups into the head tube. Pay close attention to ensure the cups enter straight and do not tilt.
  6. Complete Installation: Continue pressing until both headset cups are fully seated against the head tube. Do not overtighten.

4.2. Bottom Bracket Installation (Press-Fit)

When installing press-fit bottom brackets, it is recommended to install one side at a time to ensure proper alignment and reduce stress on the bearings.

  1. Clean Bottom Bracket Shell: Ensure the bicycle's bottom bracket shell is clean and free of old grease or debris. Apply a thin layer of grease or anti-seize compound if recommended by the bottom bracket manufacturer.
  2. Position Bottom Bracket Cups: Place one bottom bracket cup into the shell.
  3. Assemble Tool for Single Side: Slide one pressure block onto the threaded rod, followed by the bottom bracket cup, the bottom bracket shell, and then the second pressure block. Adjust the position of the pressure blocks so that the sinking table design faces the bearing to protect it during installation.
  4. Align Components: Carefully align the bottom bracket cup with the shell.
  5. Apply Pressure: Hold the tool with both hands on the handles. Slowly and evenly turn the handles to apply pressure, pressing the bottom bracket cup into the shell. Ensure it enters straight.
  6. Repeat for Second Side: Once the first cup is fully seated, remove the tool and repeat the process for the second bottom bracket cup.
  7. Final Check: After both cups are installed, ensure they are fully seated and aligned.

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance will extend the life of your Acouto TOOPRE installation tool.

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the tool with a clean cloth to remove any grease, dirt, or metal shavings.
  • Lubrication: Periodically reapply a thin layer of grease to the threaded rod to ensure smooth operation. Check the plane thrust bearing for smooth rotation and lubricate if necessary.
  • Storage: Store the tool in a dry environment to prevent rust and corrosion. Keep it disassembled or loosely assembled to prevent stress on components during storage.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the threaded rod for any signs of wear or damage. Check the pressure blocks and handles for cracks or deformation. Replace any damaged components immediately.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues during installation, consider the following common problems and solutions:

  • Difficulty Turning Handles:
    • Ensure the threaded rod is adequately lubricated.
    • Check for misalignment of components. If components are not entering straight, stop and realign.
    • Verify that the plane thrust bearing is functioning correctly and not binding.
  • Components Not Pressing Straight:
    • Stop immediately. Remove the tool and components.
    • Re-align the headset cups or bottom bracket cups with the frame.
    • Apply pressure slowly and evenly with both hands, ensuring constant visual inspection of the alignment.
  • Tool Slipping:
    • Ensure all connections, especially the handles, are securely tightened.
    • Verify that the pressure blocks are correctly seated against the components.
