5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Making Espresso
- Prepare Coffee: Use freshly ground espresso coffee. For a single shot, use one level scoop (approx. 7g) in the single filter basket. For a double shot, use two level scoops (approx. 14g) in the double filter basket.
- Tamp Coffee: Distribute the coffee evenly in the filter basket and tamp firmly with a tamper. Ensure the coffee bed is level.
- Attach Portafilter: Insert the filter basket into the portafilter. Attach the portafilter to the group head by aligning it and twisting firmly to the right until it is secure.
- Pre-heat Cups: Place your espresso cups on the cup warming tray or rinse them with hot water.
- Brew Espresso: Ensure the machine is on and the lights are solid (indicating it's heated). Place the pre-heated cup(s) under the portafilter spouts. Press the Espresso Brew button (☕).
- Monitor Pressure: Observe the manometer during brewing. The optimal pressure range for espresso is typically between 9 and 12 bar. Adjust grind size and tamping pressure if the manometer consistently reads too high or too low.
- Stop Brewing: Once the desired volume of espresso is reached (typically 25-30ml for a single shot, 50-60ml for a double shot), press the Espresso Brew button (☕) again to stop the flow.
- Remove Portafilter: Carefully remove the portafilter by twisting it to the left. Dispose of the used coffee grounds (coffee puck).
5.2 Frothing Milk
- Prepare Milk: Fill a stainless steel frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to just below the spout.
- Activate Steam: Press the Steam Function button (💨). Wait for the light to become solid, indicating the machine has reached steaming temperature.
- Purge Steam Wand: Position the steam wand over the drip tray and briefly turn the rotary knob to release any condensed water. Close the knob.
- Froth Milk: Immerse the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of the milk. Turn the rotary knob to full steam. Angle the pitcher to create a swirling motion. As the milk expands and heats, lower the pitcher slightly to keep the tip just below the surface.
- Monitor Temperature: Continue frothing until the milk reaches the desired temperature (approx. 60-65°C or too hot to touch comfortably).
- Stop Steam: Turn the rotary knob to close the steam, then remove the pitcher. Press the Steam Function button (💨) to turn off the steam heating.
- Clean Steam Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Briefly purge the steam wand again to clear any internal milk.
6. Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your espressomachine.
6.1 Daily Cleaning
- Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard coffee grounds, and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under hot water.
- Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily.
- Steam Wand: Clean immediately after each use as described in Section 5.2.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
6.2 Water Tank Cleaning
Clean the water tank weekly with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly to remove any soap residue.
6.3 Descaling
Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) can build up inside the machine, affecting performance. Descale your machine every 2-3 months, or more frequently if you live in an area with hard water. Use a commercially available descaling solution specifically designed for coffee machines and follow the product's instructions carefully. Always rinse the machine thoroughly with several cycles of fresh water after descaling.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your DOMO DO1138K, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No coffee dispenses. | No water in tank, clogged filter, machine not primed. | Fill water tank, clean filter basket, prime the machine. |
| Coffee brews too slowly or drips. | Coffee ground too fine, too much coffee, tamping too hard, machine needs descaling. | Use coarser grind, reduce coffee amount, tamp lighter, descale machine. |
| Coffee brews too quickly or is watery. | Coffee ground too coarse, too little coffee, tamping too light. | Use finer grind, increase coffee amount, tamp firmer. |
| No steam from wand. | Steam wand clogged, machine not at steam temperature. | Clean steam wand, wait for steam light to become solid. |
| Water leaks from machine. | Water tank not seated correctly, portafilter not secured, seals worn. | Re-seat water tank, secure portafilter, contact support for seal replacement. |
If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact customer support.
