4. Setup
- Unpack: Carefully remove the hot plate from its packaging. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.
- Placement: Place the hot plate on a dry, level, and heat-resistant surface. Ensure there is adequate ventilation around the appliance. Do not place it directly on wood or other heat-sensitive materials without proper insulation.
- First Use Preparation: Before first use, operate the hot plate at its highest setting for approximately 3-5 minutes without any cookware. This will burn off any manufacturing residues and protective coating oil, which may produce a slight smoke or odor. This is normal and will dissipate after a few uses. Ensure the area is well-ventilated during this process.
- Power Connection: Plug the hot plate into a standard electrical outlet.
5. Operating Instructions
The LIVINGbasics hot plate offers versatile cooking with its adjustable temperature control.
- Place Cookware: Place your desired cookware (pot or pan) directly onto the cast iron heating plate. For best results, use flat-bottomed cookware with a diameter close to 7.28 inches.
- Adjust Temperature: Turn the temperature control knob to your desired heat setting. The knob offers 5 levels, from LOW to HIGH, allowing you to keep food warm, simmer, stir-fry, or boil water.
- Power Indicator: The red power indicator light will illuminate when the burner is active and heating. It will cycle on and off as the hot plate maintains the set temperature, indicating normal operation of the safety mechanism.
- Cooking: Monitor your cooking. The 1000 watts of power provide quick and consistent heat.
- Finish Cooking: Once cooking is complete, turn the temperature control knob to the "OFF" position. The power indicator light will turn off.
- Cool Down: Allow the hot plate to cool completely before cleaning or storing. The surface will remain hot for some time after use.
