Setup
1. Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove the adding machine from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage. Ensure all components are present: the CATIGA SP-2401 adding machine, power adapter, and a roll of thermal paper.
2. Power Connection
The CATIGA SP-2401 operates on corded electric power. Connect the provided power adapter to the DC input port on the adding machine and then plug it into a standard electrical outlet. The device does not operate on batteries and requires continuous power for use.
3. Loading Thermal Paper
This adding machine uses thermal paper, eliminating the need for ink cartridges.
- Open the paper roll cover located at the top rear of the machine.
- Place the new thermal paper roll into the compartment, ensuring the paper feeds from the bottom of the roll.
- Pull a small length of paper out and feed it through the printer slot until it emerges from the front.
- Close the paper roll cover. The machine features an easy-to-load paper mechanism for convenience.

Operating Instructions
Understanding the Adding Machine Logic
The CATIGA SP-2401 is an adding machine, not a standard algebraic calculator. This means operations are entered differently, and the machine maintains a running total.

Figure 3: Visual Explanation of Adding Machine Operations
- Addition: To calculate 4 + 2 = 6, enter 4 + 2 +. Then press the * (Subtotal) key to display and print the subtotal. The machine adds each entry to a running total.
- Subtraction: To calculate 4 - 2 = 2, enter 4 + 2 -. Then press the * (Subtotal) key. (This treats the operation as 4 plus negative 2).
- The * key acts as a Subtotal function. It displays and prints the current subtotal without finalizing or clearing the grand total.
- The GT (Grand Total) key will display and print the final accumulated total and clear the machine for a new calculation series.

Maintenance
1. Ink-Free Thermal Printing
The CATIGA SP-2401 utilizes advanced thermal printing technology, eliminating the need for ink cartridges or ribbons. This ensures clean, smudge-free printouts and reduces maintenance. Simply ensure you are using compatible thermal paper rolls.
2. Cleaning the Device
To maintain the appearance and functionality of your adding machine:
- Disconnect the power adapter before cleaning.
- Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or spray directly onto the device.
- Periodically, gently clean the thermal print head with a soft, lint-free cloth to ensure clear printouts. Avoid touching the print head with bare hands.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your CATIGA SP-2401, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Machine does not power on. | Power adapter not connected or faulty outlet. | Ensure the power adapter is securely plugged into both the machine and a working electrical outlet. Check the power switch position. |
| Paper does not feed or print. | Paper incorrectly loaded, paper jam, or out of paper. | Verify the thermal paper is loaded correctly (feeding from the bottom). Clear any paper jams. Replace the paper roll if empty. Press the FEED key to advance paper. |
| Printouts are faint or blank. | Incorrect paper type, thermal paper loaded upside down, or dirty print head. | Ensure you are using thermal paper. Flip the paper roll if it's loaded with the non-thermal side facing the print head. Gently clean the thermal print head. |
| "E" (Error) code on display. | Input error or calculation overflow. | Press the C.CE key to clear the error. Review your input sequence, especially for complex calculations, and ensure it aligns with the adding machine logic. |
| Keys feel sticky or unresponsive. | New unit stiffness or debris under keys. | For new units, continued use will typically break in the keys. For older units, ensure the area around the keys is clean and free of debris. |
If the problem persists after trying these solutions, please contact CATIGA customer support for further assistance.
