2. Setup Guide

The SSK FD003 Flash Drive is designed for plug-and-play functionality, requiring no special drivers or software installation for most operating systems. Follow these simple steps to begin using your device.

2.1 Connecting to Devices

  1. Identify the Correct Port: Determine whether your device (smartphone, tablet, laptop, desktop) has a USB-C port or a traditional USB-A port.
  2. Select the Appropriate Connector: The SSK FD003 features both a USB-C connector and a USB-A connector. Rotate the zinc alloy casing to expose the desired connector. The 360° rotatable cap allows you to securely position the active connector.
  3. Insert the Flash Drive: Gently insert the selected connector into the corresponding port on your device. Ensure it is fully seated.
  4. Device Recognition: Your device should automatically recognize the flash drive. On computers, it will typically appear as a removable disk drive. On mobile devices, you may receive a notification or need to access a file manager application.

2.2 Initial Formatting (Optional)

The drive comes pre-formatted in exFAT for broad compatibility. You generally do not need to reformat it. However, if you wish to use a different file system (e.g., NTFS for Windows-specific large files, or HFS+ for macOS-specific use), you can reformat the drive using your operating system's disk utility. Warning: Reformatting will erase all data on the drive. Back up any important files before proceeding.

3. Operation

Once connected, the SSK FD003 Flash Drive functions like any standard external storage device. You can drag and drop files, copy and paste, or use your device's file management tools to interact with the drive.

3.1 Data Transfer

  • Copying Files To/From the Drive:
    • On Computers (Windows/macOS/Linux): Open File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (macOS), navigate to the flash drive, and drag and drop files or folders between your computer's storage and the flash drive.
    • On Mobile Devices (Android/iOS with OTG support): Use your device's built-in file manager app (e.g., "Files" on iOS, "My Files" on Android) to browse the flash drive and transfer content.
  • Transfer Speeds: The drive supports USB 3.2 Gen 1 speeds, with read speeds up to 240MB/s. Write speeds vary based on file size, number of files, and usage conditions, typically ranging from 40-135MB/s. For optimal performance, connect to a USB 3.0/3.1/3.2 port.

3.2 Safe Removal

Always safely eject the flash drive from your computer or mobile device before physically removing it to prevent data corruption.

  • Windows: Right-click the drive icon in "This PC" or the system tray, then select "Eject".
  • macOS: Drag the drive icon to the Trash, or click the Eject button next to the drive name in Finder.
  • Android: Go to Storage settings, find the USB drive, and tap "Eject" or "Unmount".
  • iOS: Once you close the Files app or navigate away from the drive, it is generally safe to remove.

3.3 Saving Phone Storage Space

The SSK FD003 can be used to offload photos, videos, and documents from your smartphone or tablet, freeing up valuable internal storage. Simply transfer files from your device to the flash drive.

4. Maintenance and Care

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your SSK FD003 Flash Drive, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Physical Protection: The drive features UDP encapsulation, providing enhanced water, dust, and drop resistance. While robust, avoid prolonged submersion in water or exposure to extreme physical impacts.
  • Heat Dissipation: The zinc alloy shell is designed for excellent heat dissipation. Ensure the drive is not covered or placed in environments that could trap heat during extended use.
  • Connector Care: Keep the USB-C and USB-A connectors clean and free of debris. Use the rotatable cap to protect the inactive connector when not in use.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the flash drive in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong magnetic fields. The built-in keyring allows for secure attachment to keys or bags, reducing the risk of loss.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your SSK FD003 Flash Drive, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Drive not recognized by device.Incorrect port, loose connection, incompatible file system, or driver issue.
  • Ensure the correct USB-C or USB-A connector is fully inserted into the corresponding port.
  • Try a different USB port on your device.
  • Restart your computer or mobile device.
  • Check your device's file manager or disk management utility to see if the drive is detected but unmounted or has a partition issue.
Slow transfer speeds.Connected to a USB 2.0 port, large number of small files, or background processes.
  • Connect the drive to a USB 3.0/3.1/3.2 port for optimal speeds.
  • Transfer large files in batches rather than many small files.
  • Close unnecessary applications running in the background.
"Disk is write-protected" error.Drive is set to read-only, or file system corruption.
  • Check disk properties in your operating system to ensure it's not set to read-only.
  • Run a disk check utility (e.g., CHKDSK on Windows) to repair file system errors.
  • If data is not critical, reformat the drive (see Section 2.2).
Capacity displayed is less than 128GB.Binary calculation difference (common for storage devices). This is normal. Operating systems calculate storage in binary (1GB = 1024MB), while manufacturers use decimal (1GB = 1000MB). A 128GB drive typically shows around 116GB on Windows. This does not affect the actual physical storage.
