  4. Read Data: Wait approximately 10 seconds for the readings to stabilize on the LCD screen.
  5. Lock Reading: Press the HOLD/Temp button to lock the current display. Press again to unlock.
  6. Clean Probe: After each use, clean the sensor thoroughly with water.

Calibration

EC Calibration

The EC meter is factory calibrated. However, to maintain precision, it is recommended to calibrate it once a month.

Five-step diagram for EC calibration: 1. Clean the probe and dry it. 2. Immerse the probe in EC 1413 solution up to the lowest measurement line. 3. Press CAL to enter calibration mode (mS blinking). 4. Hold CAL for 5 seconds, then use up/down buttons to adjust the value to 1.41 mS. Release CAL. 5. Rinse the probe with filtered water.

  • Probe Cleaning: Always clean the probe thoroughly with clear water after each use to prevent residue buildup and ensure accurate future readings.
  • Avoid Prolonged Immersion: Do not leave the probe immersed in liquid for extended periods.
  • Soil Insertion Depth: For accurate readings, ensure the electrode is inserted 6-10 cm (approximately 2.6 inches) into the soil.
  • pH Calibration Frequency: While the EC is factory calibrated, pH should be calibrated every two weeks to maintain precision.
  • Dry Soil Warning: Never insert the probe into dry, hard soil without pre-watering the area, as this can damage the sensor.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your GIDIGI soil tester, consider the following:

  • Inaccurate Readings:
    • Ensure the probe is clean and free of debris.
    • Verify that the soil is adequately moist before testing.
    • Perform a calibration for both pH and EC as described in the Calibration section.
    • Ensure the probe is inserted to the correct depth (6-10 cm).
  • No Display/Faint Display:
    • Check the batteries. Replace all 4 AAA batteries if they are low or depleted.
    • Ensure batteries are inserted with correct polarity.
  • Device Not Turning On:
    • Confirm batteries are correctly installed and charged.
