Installation Instructions (Setup)
Follow these steps carefully to ensure safe and proper installation.
- Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the outlet you are replacing or installing. Turn it OFF. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
- Remove Old Receptacle (if applicable): Unscrew the wall plate and then the mounting screws holding the old receptacle in the electrical box. Carefully pull the old receptacle out of the box.
- Disconnect Wires: Disconnect the wires from the old receptacle. Note which wire was connected to which terminal (typically black to brass/dark screw, white to silver/light screw, bare copper or green to green screw).
- Prepare Wires: If necessary, strip approximately 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) of insulation from the ends of the wires. Ensure wires are straight and free of nicks.
- Connect Wires to New Receptacle:
- Ground Wire (Green or Bare Copper): Connect to the green grounding screw.
- Neutral Wire (White): Connect to the silver-colored terminal screw or use the push-in terminal (14AWG only).
- Hot Wire (Black): Connect to the brass-colored terminal screw or use the push-in terminal (14AWG only).
For side wiring, wrap the wire clockwise around the screw terminal and tighten securely. For push-in wiring, insert the stripped 14AWG wire firmly into the appropriate hole until it stops.
- Secure Receptacle: Carefully fold the wires into the electrical box. Insert the new receptacle into the box and secure it with the mounting screws. Ensure the receptacle is flush with the wall.
- Install Wall Plate: Attach the new wall plate over the receptacle and secure it with the provided screw.
- Restore Power: Turn the power back ON at the circuit breaker or fuse box. Test the receptacle to ensure it is functioning correctly.
