2.2 Audio Connections

2.3 Bypass Mode Selection

The 2020-2.0 Pedal Tuner offers two bypass modes: True Bypass and Buffered Bypass. Use the 'BUFFER OFF ON' switch on the rear of the pedal to select your preferred mode.

  • OFF (True Bypass): When the tuner is disengaged, your instrument's signal passes directly through the pedal without any electronic buffering. This preserves the original tone but may lead to signal degradation over long cable runs or complex pedal chains.
  • ON (Buffered Bypass): When the tuner is disengaged, a high-quality buffer circuit maintains signal integrity, preventing tone loss over long cables or through multiple pedals. This is generally recommended for larger pedalboards.

3. Operation

3.1 Engaging the Tuner

Press the footswitch to engage the tuner. When engaged, the display will activate, and the pedal's output will be muted, allowing for silent tuning during performances.

3.2 Reading the Display

The large, bright display shows the note being played and indicates whether it is sharp, flat, or in tune. The central bar indicates perfect pitch, while bars to the left indicate flat and bars to the right indicate sharp.

3.3 Calibration

The standard calibration (A4) is 440Hz. To adjust the calibration, press and hold the 'PITCH' button. The display will show the current calibration frequency. Use the 'PITCH' button to decrease the frequency and the 'FLAT' button to increase it. The calibration range is 436-445Hz in 1Hz steps. Release the button to set the new calibration.

3.4 Flat Tuning Modes

The tuner supports three flat tuning modes. To cycle through these modes, press the 'FLAT' button. Each press will add a flat symbol (b, bb, bbb) to the display, indicating tuning down by a semitone, two semitones, or three semitones, respectively. Pressing it a fourth time will return to standard tuning.

4. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Electro-Harmonix 2020-2.0 Pedal Tuner, follow these general maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the pedal. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents, which can damage the finish.
  • Storage: Store the pedal in a dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Handling: Handle the pedal with care. Avoid dropping it or subjecting it to strong impacts.
  • Power: Always use the specified 9V DC power adapter. Disconnect power when the pedal is not in use for extended periods.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Electro-Harmonix 2020-2.0 Pedal Tuner, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power/Display:
    • Ensure the 9V DC power adapter is correctly connected to the pedal and a working power outlet.
    • Verify the power adapter is functioning correctly.
  • Inaccurate Tuning:
    • Check the calibration setting (A4). Ensure it is set to your desired frequency (e.g., 440Hz).
    • Ensure your instrument is properly intonated.
    • Check for any loose connections in your signal chain.
  • No Sound from Output:
    • Confirm the tuner is disengaged (footswitch not pressed) if you expect sound to pass through. The output is muted when the tuner is active.
    • Check all audio cables for proper connection and functionality.
    • Verify the 'BUFFER' switch setting.
