Important Safety Information

WARNING: Read and understand all safety precautions and instructions in this manual before operating the generator. Failure to do so can result in serious injury or death.

  • Carbon Monoxide Hazard: Generators produce carbon monoxide (CO), an odorless, colorless, and poisonous gas. Operate generators outdoors only, far away from windows, doors, and vents. The WEN Watchdog CO Shutdown Sensor automatically turns off the generator if dangerous levels of CO are detected.
  • Fire Hazard: Gasoline and propane are highly flammable. Refuel only when the engine is off and cool. Store fuel in approved containers in a well-ventilated area away from ignition sources.
  • Electrical Shock Hazard: Do not operate the generator in wet conditions. Ensure all electrical connections are secure and properly grounded.
  • Hot Surfaces: The generator's engine and muffler become extremely hot during operation and remain hot for a period after shutdown. Avoid contact with hot surfaces.

Product Features

  • 224cc dual-fuel engine runs on both gasoline (6800 surge watts, 5100 rated watts) and propane (6000 surge watts, 4500 rated watts).
  • Bonded-neutral 240V configuration provides low-power Level 2 charging for battery and hybrid electric vehicles.
  • WEN Watchdog CO Shutdown Sensor for enhanced safety.
  • Fuel shutoff feature maximizes generator lifespan by using up remaining carburetor fuel.
  • Equipped with onboard wheels and a telescoping pull handle for easy portability.
  • Multiple outlets: one L14-30R 120V/240V receptacle, two three-prong 120V receptacles, one TT-30R RV receptacle, one 12V DC receptacle, and two 5V USB ports.
  • Voltage selector switch for 120V or 240V output.
  • Eco-mode switch for maximizing fuel economy.

Setup

1. Unpacking and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove the generator and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage. Ensure all components listed in the packing list are present.

2. Adding Engine Oil

The generator is shipped without engine oil. Before first use, you must add the recommended oil. Locate the oil fill cap/dipstick on the side of the generator. Remove the side panel by twisting the two tabs to access the oil fill hole. Use the provided funnel to carefully pour SAE 10W-30 engine oil into the crankcase until it reaches the upper mark on the dipstick. Do not overfill.

3. Connecting the Battery

The generator's electric start feature requires the battery to be connected. The battery is shipped disconnected for safety. Locate the battery compartment, typically behind a removable side panel. Connect the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals of the battery as instructed in the manual. Ensure connections are secure.

4. Fueling

This dual-fuel generator can operate on gasoline or propane.

  • Gasoline: Open the fuel cap and fill the tank with fresh, unleaded gasoline. Do not overfill.
  • Propane (LPG): Connect the included propane hose and regulator to a standard propane tank and to the LPG inlet on the generator's control panel. Ensure all connections are tight.

5. Connecting to Power

The control panel features various outlets for different power needs.

  • AC 120V/240V Outlets: Use the voltage selector switch to choose between 120V and 240V output. The L14-30R receptacle supports both.
  • RV Ready (TT-30R): Connect your RV's power cord directly to the TT-30R outlet.
  • USB Ports: Two 5V USB ports are available for charging small electronic devices.
  • EV Charging: The bonded-neutral 240V configuration allows for low-power Level 2 EV charging.

Operation

1. Starting the Generator

Ensure the generator is on a level surface and away from any obstructions. Turn the fuel valve to the 'ON' position (if using gasoline). If using propane, ensure the propane tank valve is open. Turn the engine switch to the 'RUN' position. For electric start, press and hold the 'ENGINE START' button until the engine starts. For manual start, pull the recoil starter handle firmly until the engine starts.

2. Eco-Mode

Engage the Eco-Mode switch to allow the generator's engine to automatically adjust its fuel consumption based on the load. This feature optimizes fuel efficiency and reduces noise when less power is required.

3. Monitoring Power Output (Data Meter)

The integrated data meter displays real-time information such as voltage, frequency, and runtime. It also indicates load percentage and fuel level, allowing you to monitor the generator's performance.

4. Parallel Connection

For increased power output, any two 240V WEN inverter generators can be linked using a WEN 240V Parallel Connection Kit (sold separately). Refer to the parallel connection kit's manual for detailed instructions.

5. Fuel Shut-Off Feature

To maximize the generator's lifespan and minimize carburetor maintenance, utilize the fuel shut-off feature. This allows the engine to consume all remaining fuel in the carburetor before shutting down, preventing fuel stagnation and blockages.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your WEN generator. Always ensure the generator is off and cool before performing any maintenance.

1. Regular Checks

  • Check engine oil level before each use.
  • Inspect air filter for cleanliness and replace if necessary.
  • Check spark plug condition and gap periodically.

2. Oil Change

Change the engine oil after the first 8 hours of operation, and then every 50 hours or annually, whichever comes first. Refer to the manual for specific oil change procedures and recommended oil types based on ambient temperature.

3. Storage

For long-term storage, ensure the fuel tank is empty and the carburetor is drained using the fuel shut-off feature. Store the generator in a clean, dry, and well-ventilated area, protected from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
