  • Power Cord
  • Rackmount Kit (if applicable)
  • Quick Installation Guide

3.2 Physical Installation

The ES220GMP switch is designed for both desktop and rack mounting. Choose a stable, well-ventilated location.

  • Desktop Placement: Place the switch on a flat, stable surface, ensuring adequate space for ventilation around the device.
  • Rack Mounting: Attach the provided rackmount brackets to the sides of the switch using the screws. Secure the switch into a standard 19-inch equipment rack.

The product dimensions are approximately 7.87"L x 5.91"W x 5.91"H.

3.3 Connecting the Switch

  1. Power Connection: Connect the power cord to the switch's power inlet and then to a power outlet.
  2. Network Devices:
    • Connect network devices (e.g., computers, servers, printers, cameras) to the 16 Gigabit PoE+ RJ45 ports (ports 1-16) using Ethernet cables. These ports can provide power to PoE-compatible devices.
    • Connect non-PoE network devices or uplink connections to the 2 Gigabit RJ45 ports (ports 17-18).
    • For fiber optic connections, insert compatible SFP modules into the 2 Gigabit SFP ports (ports 19-20) and connect fiber optic cables.

The switch supports plug-and-play functionality for immediate network connectivity.

4. Operating the Switch

4.1 Powering On and LED Indicators

Once connected to power, the switch will automatically power on. Observe the LED indicators on the front panel:

  • Power LED: Indicates the power status of the switch.
  • Link/Act LEDs (per port): Indicates a stable network link and flashes to show data activity.
  • PoE Status LEDs (per PoE port): Indicates PoE power delivery status.

4.2 Centralized Cloud Management (Omada SDN)

The ES220GMP switch is designed to integrate seamlessly with the TP-Link Omada SDN platform. This allows for centralized management of your network devices from a single interface, accessible via cloud or a local Omada Controller.

  • For detailed configuration and advanced features (e.g., VLAN, QoS, IGMP Snooping, Port Isolation), refer to the Omada SDN Controller's user guide or the TP-Link official website.
  • The switch supports features like PoE Auto Recovery, which automatically reboots PoE-powered devices that become unresponsive.
  • Port Isolation can be configured to isolate traffic between specific ports for enhanced security.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your switch.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the switch. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings are clear of dust and obstructions.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the TP-Link official website or your Omada SDN Controller for the latest firmware updates. Keeping the firmware updated can improve performance, add new features, and fix bugs.

6. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your switch.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No Power LED indicationPower cord not connected or power outlet issue.Ensure the power cord is securely connected to the switch and a working power outlet. Test the outlet with another device.
No Link/Act LED for a connected deviceIncorrect cable, faulty cable, or device not powered on.Check the Ethernet cable connection. Try a different cable. Ensure the connected device is powered on and functioning correctly.
PoE device not receiving powerDevice not PoE compatible, cable issue, or exceeding PoE budget.Verify the device is PoE (802.3at/af) compatible. Check the Ethernet cable. Ensure the total PoE power consumption does not exceed the 250W budget. The switch's PoE Auto Recovery feature may attempt to restart unresponsive devices.
Network loop detectedImproper network cabling creating a loop. The switch has automatic detection for network loops. Identify and correct the cabling error causing the loop.

For more advanced troubleshooting or persistent issues, consult the TP-Link support resources or the Omada SDN documentation.
