4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation and Removal

  1. To Install: Align the ribs on the battery pack with the grooves in the tool's battery port. Slide the battery pack into the tool until it clicks securely into place.
  2. To Remove: Press the battery release button (usually located on the battery pack) and slide the battery pack out of the tool.

Note: Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use. Refer to the battery charger manual for charging instructions.

4.2 Guard Attachment and Adjustment

The grinder includes both 4-1/2 inch and 5 inch Type 27 guards. Always use the appropriate guard for the disc size being used.

  1. Ensure the battery pack is removed from the tool.
  2. Align the guard with the gear housing.
  3. Press the guard release lever (if present) or rotate the guard until it locks into position. The guards are tool-free adjustable, allowing for quick changes.
  4. Adjust the guard's position to provide maximum protection for the specific application, directing sparks away from the operator.

4.3 Grinding Disc Installation

Always use grinding discs that are rated for the grinder's maximum RPM and are compatible with the arbor size.

  1. Ensure the battery pack is removed from the tool.
  2. Press and hold the spindle lock button.
  3. Place the inner flange onto the spindle.
  4. Position the grinding disc onto the inner flange, ensuring it sits flat.
  5. Thread the outer flange nut onto the spindle.
  6. While still holding the spindle lock button, use the arbor wrench to firmly tighten the outer flange nut. Do not overtighten.
  7. Release the spindle lock button.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Starting and Stopping the Grinder

  • To Start: Insert a charged battery. Grip the tool firmly with both hands. Depress the paddle-switch trigger. The tool will start.
  • To Stop: Release the paddle-switch trigger. The tool will stop.
  • Lock-on Feature: For extended use, some models may feature a lock-on button. Depress the paddle switch, then press the lock-on button. Release the paddle switch. To turn off, depress and release the paddle switch again.

5.2 General Grinding and Cutting Techniques

  • Secure Workpiece: Always clamp or otherwise secure the workpiece to prevent movement during operation.
  • Proper Grip: Hold the grinder firmly with both hands, using the main handle and the two-position side handle.
  • Starting the Cut/Grind: Allow the disc to reach full speed before contacting the workpiece.
  • Angle of Approach: For grinding, maintain a shallow angle (typically 15-30 degrees) between the disc and the workpiece. For cutting, hold the disc perpendicular to the workpiece.
  • Even Pressure: Apply light, even pressure. Do not force the tool, as this can lead to kickback or damage to the disc/tool.
  • Direction of Feed: Always feed the grinder in a direction that allows the sparks and debris to be directed away from your body and any flammable materials.
  • Cooling: For prolonged use, allow the tool to cool periodically to prevent overheating.

6. Maintenance

6.1 General Cleaning

  • Always disconnect the battery pack before performing any maintenance.
  • Regularly clean the ventilation openings on the tool to prevent dust buildup, which can cause overheating. Use compressed air to clear debris.
  • Wipe the tool's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

6.2 Disc Replacement

Replace grinding or cutting discs when they become worn, chipped, or cracked. Follow the disc installation steps in Section 4.3.

6.3 Battery and Charger Care

  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Do not store batteries in a discharged state for extended periods.
  • Keep the charger and battery contacts clean.

7. Troubleshooting
