Setup and Installation

Initial Charge

Before first use, ensure the battery is fully charged using a compatible LiFePO4 charger. The recommended charge voltage is between 14.2V and 14.6V, with a charge current between 5A and 50A. Refer to your charger's manual for specific instructions.

Connecting Batteries in Series and Parallel

The VEMDIA 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery can be connected in series or parallel for increased voltage or capacity. Observe the following critical guidelines:

  1. Pre-charge: Ensure each battery is charged separately until its voltage is consistent before connecting them together. This prevents current imbalances.
  2. Matching Batteries: Use only identical batteries with the same capacity (Ah) and BMS (Battery Management System) from the same brand (VEMDIA). Mixing different battery types or brands can lead to performance issues or damage.
  3. Wiring: Always follow proper wiring diagrams for series and parallel connections. Incorrect wiring can severely damage the batteries or connected equipment. Consult a qualified electrician if unsure.

Environmental Considerations

Install the battery in a dry, well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight, excessive heat sources, and extreme cold. While the battery has an IP65 waterproof rating, offering protection against dust and low-pressure water jets, it should not be immersed in water.

Operation

Charging

Always use a dedicated LiFePO4 charger that matches the battery's voltage and current requirements. Monitor the charge voltage and current to ensure they stay within the specified ranges (14.2V-14.6V, 5A-50A). The built-in BMS provides protection against overcharging, over-current, and high temperatures during the charging process.

Discharging

The maximum continuous discharge current for this battery is 100A. The BMS will protect the battery from over-discharge by cutting off power if the voltage drops too low or the current draw exceeds safe limits. This battery is suitable for various applications including RVs, golf carts, marine use, and home energy storage systems.

Low-Temperature Protection

The integrated BMS includes a low-temperature protection feature. This system prevents charging when the battery's internal temperature is below 0°C (32°F) to avoid damage and prolong battery life. Discharging is permitted down to -20°C (-4°F).

Maintenance

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically check battery terminals for corrosion, dirt, or loose connections. Ensure all connections are secure and clean.
  • Cleaning: Keep the battery clean and dry. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use solvents, abrasive cleaners, or immerse the battery in water.
  • Storage: For long-term storage (more than 3 months), charge the battery to approximately 50% capacity. Recharge the battery every 3 months to prevent deep discharge. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Temperature: Avoid exposing the battery to temperatures outside its specified operating and storage ranges to ensure optimal performance and lifespan.

Troubleshooting

Battery Not Charging

  • Charger Compatibility: Ensure you are using a charger specifically designed for LiFePO4 batteries. Standard lead-acid chargers are not compatible and can damage the battery.
  • Connections: Verify all charging cables are securely connected to both the battery terminals and the charger output. Check for any damage to cables or connectors.
  • Temperature: If the ambient temperature is below 0°C (32°F), the battery's low-temperature protection feature will prevent charging. Move the battery to a warmer environment (above 0°C) for charging.
  • BMS Activation: The BMS may have activated due to an over-discharge event or other fault conditions. Disconnect all loads, wait a few minutes, and then attempt to reconnect the charger.

Battery Not Discharging / Low Power Output

  • Charge Level: Check the battery's state of charge. If it is too low, the BMS may have cut off output to prevent over-discharge. Recharge the battery if necessary.
  • Load Current: Ensure the connected load does not exceed the maximum continuous discharge current (100A). The BMS will cut off power if an overload is detected.
  • Connections: Verify all load connections are secure and free from corrosion. Loose connections can cause voltage drops and intermittent power.
  • BMS Protection: The BMS may have activated due to over-discharge, over-current, or a short-circuit. Disconnect the load, wait a few minutes for the BMS to reset, and then try again.

Unusual Heat or Odor

If you observe unusual heat, smoke, or a strange odor emanating from the battery, immediately disconnect the battery from all loads and chargers. Move the battery to a safe, non-flammable outdoor area if possible, and contact customer support immediately. Do not attempt to use or repair the battery yourself.
