- Rebooting: Periodically rebooting your modem router (unplugging power for 30 seconds and plugging back in) can resolve minor connectivity issues and improve performance.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your SURFboard G18, try these common troubleshooting steps.
5.1 No Internet Connection
- Check Cables: Ensure all cables (coaxial, Ethernet, power) are securely connected.
- Check LEDs: Verify that the Power, Downstream, Upstream, and Internet LEDs are solid green or blue. If any are blinking or off, there might be an issue with your ISP connection.
- Reboot Device: Unplug the power adapter from the G18, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow several minutes for the device to restart and reconnect.
- Contact ISP: If the issue persists after rebooting and checking connections, contact your Internet Service Provider to confirm service status in your area.
5.2 Slow Internet Speed
- Test Wired Connection: Connect a computer directly to the G18 via Ethernet and test the speed. If wired speed is good but Wi-Fi is slow, the issue might be with your Wi-Fi signal.
- Wi-Fi Interference: Move the G18 away from other electronic devices that might cause interference (e.g., cordless phones, microwaves).
- Channel Optimization: Use the SURFboard Central app to check for optimal Wi-Fi channels to reduce interference from neighboring networks.
- ISP Plan: Verify that your internet plan from your ISP supports the speeds you expect.
5.3 Wi-Fi Signal Issues
- Device Proximity: Ensure your Wi-Fi devices are within reasonable range of the G18.
- Obstructions: Walls, floors, and large metal objects can degrade Wi-Fi signals. Try to place the G18 in an open, central location.
- Too Many Devices: If many devices are connected and actively using bandwidth, performance may decrease.
