1. Introduction

This device is designed for reliable and flexible communication across multiple frequency bands, including UHF, VHF, and 1.25M, with additional Airband reception capabilities. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation of your radio. Please read it thoroughly before use.

2. Safety Information

To ensure safe operation and prevent damage to your radio, please observe the following precautions:

• Do not operate the radio in explosive atmospheres (e.g., near flammable gas, dust particles, or metallic powders).
• Do not transmit without an antenna attached.
• Avoid exposing the radio to direct sunlight for extended periods or to extreme temperatures.
• Keep the radio away from water and moisture. This device is not water-resistant.
• Use only BAOFENG approved accessories and replacement parts.
• Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the radio. Repairs should only be performed by qualified technicians.
• Maintain a safe distance from medical devices, such as pacemakers, when operating the radio.

4. Setup

4.1. Battery Installation and Charging

1. Install the Battery: Align the battery pack with the grooves on the back of the radio and slide it upwards until it clicks into place.
2. Charge the Battery:
   • Desktop Charging: Place the radio (with battery installed) into the desktop charger. Ensure the charging contacts align. The indicator light will show charging status.
   • USB-C Charging: Connect a USB-C cable (not included) directly to the USB-C port on the battery pack for convenient charging.

4.2. Antenna Attachment

Screw the antenna clockwise onto the connector at the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

4.3. Belt Clip and Wrist Strap

Attach the belt clip to the back of the radio using the provided screws. Secure the wrist strap to the designated loop for added security.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Power On/Off and Volume

• Power On: Rotate the power/volume knob clockwise until you hear a click.
• Adjust Volume: Continue rotating the knob to adjust the listening volume.
• Power Off: Rotate the power/volume knob counter-clockwise until you hear a click.

5.2. Display and Interface

The BAOFENG K5PLUS features a 1.77-inch large color screen for clear display of frequencies, channel names, battery status, and other operational indicators.

5.3. Frequency Bands and Multi-Band Operation

The K5PLUS supports tri-band transmission (UHF, VHF, 1.25M) and multi-band reception (VHF, UHF, FM, Airband, 1.25M, 1M). This provides extensive coverage and flexibility for various communication needs.

5.4. Tri-Power Output

The radio offers adjustable power output levels: 10W (High), 7W (Medium), and 4W (Low). Select the appropriate power level based on your communication range requirements and battery conservation needs. Higher power provides longer range but consumes more battery.

5.5. One-Key Frequency Copy

This feature allows for quick and easy copying of frequencies and CTCSS/DCS codes from another radio. To use, activate the one-key frequency copy function (refer to your radio's menu for specific steps), then place the K5PLUS near the transmitting radio. This simplifies setup and ensures rapid synchronization.

5.6. CHIRP Programming

The BAOFENG K5PLUS is programmable using CHIRP software. This allows for easy configuration of frequencies, channel names, CTCSS/DCS tones, and power levels. CHIRP supports batch editing and offers broad compatibility, simplifying advanced radio programming. A programming cable (not included) is required to connect the radio to a computer.

5.7. Channel Management

The radio supports up to 999 channels. Channels can be programmed manually or via CHIRP software. Use the V/M button to switch between Frequency (VFO) mode and Channel (Memory) mode.

5.8. Scanning Functions

The K5PLUS includes various scanning capabilities:

• Channel Scanning: Scans through programmed memory channels.
• Frequency Scanning: Scans a range of frequencies in VFO mode.
• CTCSS/DCS Scanning: Detects CTCSS/DCS tones on an active frequency.

5.9. Scrambler Function

For enhanced communication privacy, the radio includes a scrambler function. This feature encrypts your voice transmission, making it difficult for unauthorized listeners to understand your conversation. Refer to the menu settings for activation and configuration.

6.1. Cleaning
