Setup and Installation
Proper installation of the car seat base is crucial for safety. The KeyFit® Max ClearTex® base can be installed using either the vehicle's LATCH system or the vehicle's seat belt.
1. Base Installation (LATCH System)
- Locate the LATCH anchors in your vehicle's back seat.
- Extend the LATCH connectors from the car seat base.
- Attach the LATCH connectors securely to the vehicle's LATCH anchors. Listen for a click to confirm engagement.
- Press down firmly on the base while tightening the LATCH strap to remove all slack.
- Check the two bubble level-indicators on the base to ensure the base is level. Adjust the spring-loaded leveling foot as needed to achieve the correct angle.
- Test the installation by pulling on the base at the belt path. It should not move more than one inch side-to-side or front-to-back.
2. Base Installation (Vehicle Seat Belt)
- Place the car seat base on the vehicle seat.
- Route the vehicle's lap and shoulder belt through the designated belt path on the base.
- Buckle the seat belt.
- Engage the belt lock-off mechanism on the base (if applicable) to secure the seat belt tightly.
- Press down firmly on the base while pulling the seat belt to remove all slack.
- Check the two bubble level-indicators on the base to ensure the base is level. Adjust the spring-loaded leveling foot as needed.
- Test the installation by pulling on the base at the belt path. It should not move more than one inch side-to-side or front-to-back.

Operating Instructions
1. Securing Your Infant in the Carrier
- Place your infant in the car seat. Ensure the infant head and body support insert is used for newborns to provide proper positioning.
- Bring the harness straps over your child's shoulders and buckle the chest clip and crotch buckle.
- Tighten the harness straps until they are snug against your child's body. You should not be able to pinch any slack at the shoulder.
- Position the chest clip at armpit level.
- Adjust the 5-position headrest to ensure the harness straps are at or just below your child's shoulders for rear-facing use.

2. Attaching/Detaching Carrier from Base
- To attach: Align the infant carrier with the installed base and push down firmly until you hear a click, indicating it is securely latched.
- To detach: Squeeze the release handle (typically located at the back of the carrier) and lift the carrier straight up from the base.
