Televes SmartKom Intelligent Signal Combiner and Amplifier (Model 531983)

User Manual

Introduction

The Televes SmartKom 531983 is an intelligent signal combiner and amplifier designed to optimize over-the-air (OTA) television reception. This device addresses challenges associated with receiving signals from multiple broadcast directions and managing uneven channel levels. It integrates signals from up to three antennas, filters each channel individually, and balances output levels for consistent reception.

The SmartKom features 32 per-channel filters, Bluetooth app control for advanced configuration, and is compatible with ATSC 3.0 (NextGen TV) and 4K broadcasts. It provides a single, clean output for whole-home distribution or small commercial applications.

Setup

What's in the Box

Mounting

The SmartKom unit can be mounted outdoors on a mast using its weather-resistant Zamak and ABS enclosure, or indoors on a wall. Select a location that allows for easy connection to your antennas and the power supply.

Connections

Connect up to three antennas to the designated input ports on the SmartKom unit. The unit is powered over the same coaxial cable that carries the signal from the SmartKom to the included power supply controller. The power supply controller then connects to your television or distribution system.

It shows how multiple antennas are connected to the SmartKom, which then feeds a single signal to a power supply, a splitter, and finally to multiple televisions within a home.

Initial Configuration (Auto-Scan)

  1. Ensure all antennas are connected and the power supply is active.
  2. Press and hold the auto-scan button on the SmartKom unit for approximately 5 seconds.
  3. The SmartKom will automatically scan all inputs, identify available channels, apply filtering, and balance the signal levels. It also provides power to compatible Televes antennas or preamplifiers.

Advanced Configuration (ASuite App)

For detailed control and fine-tuning, download the free ASuite app (available for iOS and Android devices). The app connects wirelessly via Bluetooth, allowing you to select specific channels per input and adjust individual channel levels from the ground.

Operating Instructions

Signal Processing

The SmartKom's 32 programmable digital filters operate on a channel-by-channel basis with a 60 dB dynamic range. Each channel is individually amplified and balanced to a consistent output level, regardless of the incoming signal strength. This process prevents strong channels from overpowering weaker ones.

Multi-Antenna Operation

When multiple antennas are connected, the SmartKom individually filters each channel from each antenna input, rejects off-axis contributions, and adjusts each channel to the same output level. This delivers a single, balanced, and interference-free signal, making all channels from all directions available simultaneously.

LTE/5G Filtering

The unit includes built-in LTE and 5G cell signal filtering (above 608 MHz) to block common sources of OTA interference and overload, ensuring a cleaner signal.

LED Indicators

The SmartKom and its Power Supply Unit feature LED indicators to provide status information:

Maintenance

The SmartKom unit is designed for durability with a weather-resistant Zamak and ABS enclosure, suitable for outdoor mast mounting. No specific routine maintenance is typically required beyond ensuring connections remain secure and free from corrosion.

Configuration settings are saved in memory and are retained even after a power loss, eliminating the need for re-setup.

Periodically inspect the unit and its connections for any signs of physical damage or wear, especially if mounted outdoors.
