7. Operating Instructions

Your BAFANG Ebike Conversion Kit offers four primary riding modes, allowing you to customize your riding experience. The 500C display provides essential information and control over these modes.

Image of the 500C Smart Digital LCD Display, showing its features like 2.2 inch IPS screen, advanced password protection, 1-5 brightness settings, 3, 5, or 9 PAS levels, and 22.2mm holder size. The display shows speed, power, battery level, trip mileage, and PAS level.

Figure 7.1: Overview of the 500C Smart Digital LCD Display.

7.1 Riding Modes

  • Throttle Mode: Engage the thumb throttle to propel the bike without pedaling. The motor provides power directly based on throttle input.
  • Pedal Assist Mode (PAS): The motor provides assistance as you pedal. The level of assistance can be adjusted via the display (typically 3, 5, or 9 levels). This mode extends battery life and reduces rider effort.
  • Walk Assist Mode: Provides low-speed motor assistance to help you push the bike when walking alongside it. This is useful for navigating crowded areas or steep inclines off the bike.
  • Pedal-Only Mode: The motor provides no assistance, and the bike functions as a traditional bicycle.

7.2 Display Operation (500C Example)

The 500C display allows you to monitor your ride data and control kit settings:

  • Power On/Off: Press and hold the power button to turn the system on or off.
  • PAS Level Adjustment: Use the '+' and '-' buttons to cycle through pedal assist levels.
  • Information Display: The screen shows current speed, battery level, power output, trip distance, and total mileage.
  • Settings: Access advanced settings (e.g., wheel size, speed limit, password) through the display menu. Refer to your specific display's manual for detailed instructions on advanced settings.

8. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your BAFANG Ebike Conversion Kit.

  • Cleaning: Clean the motor, controller, and display with a damp cloth. Avoid high-pressure washing directly on electrical components.
  • Connections: Periodically check all electrical connections for tightness and corrosion. Ensure waterproof connectors are properly sealed.
  • Cables: Inspect cables for any signs of wear, fraying, or damage. Replace damaged cables immediately.
  • Motor: The brushless geared motor is largely maintenance-free. Keep the motor housing clean.
  • Battery: Follow the battery manufacturer's instructions for charging, storage, and maintenance. Do not expose the battery to extreme temperatures.
  • Brakes: Ensure your brakes are functioning correctly, especially the e-bike specific brake cut-off sensors.
  • General Bike Maintenance: Continue to perform regular maintenance on your bicycle's mechanical components (tires, chain, gears, etc.) as you would with a standard bike.
