Setup

Battery Installation

The Fluke 301A Clamp Meter requires two AAA batteries for operation. To install or replace batteries:

1. Ensure the meter is turned OFF.
2. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the meter.
3. Use a screwdriver to open the battery compartment cover.
4. Insert two AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
5. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.

The meter features an auto power-off function to conserve battery life, providing up to 500 hours of operation.

Operating Instructions

Familiarize yourself with the control knob and input terminals before operation.

Turning On/Off and Backlight

• To turn the meter ON, rotate the control knob from the OFF position to any desired measurement function.
• To turn the meter OFF, rotate the control knob to the OFF position.
• To activate the backlight, press and hold the "2s" button (often integrated with the HOLD button or a dedicated backlight button). Press and hold again to turn it off.

Measuring AC Current

1. Rotate the control knob to the AC Current (A~) position.
2. Press the trigger to open the clamping jaw.
3. Place the jaw around a single conductor (not a bundle of wires) through which the current flows. Ensure the jaw is fully closed.
4. Read the AC current value on the display.

Measuring AC/DC Voltage

1. Insert the black test lead into the COM terminal and the red test lead into the VΩ terminal.
2. Rotate the control knob to the AC Voltage (V~) or DC Voltage (V-) position.
3. Connect the test probes across the circuit or component to be measured.
4. Read the voltage value on the display.

Measuring Resistance and Continuity

1. Insert the black test lead into the COM terminal and the red test lead into the VΩ terminal.
2. Rotate the control knob to the Ω (Resistance) or Continuity position.
3. For resistance, connect the test probes across the component. For continuity, connect the probes across the circuit.
4. Read the resistance value or listen for the audible tone for continuity.

Diode Testing

1. Insert the black test lead into the COM terminal and the red test lead into the VΩ terminal.
2. Rotate the control knob to the Diode (->|) position.
3. Connect the red probe to the anode and the black probe to the cathode of the diode.
4. Read the forward voltage drop on the display. Reverse the probes to check for open circuit.

Measuring Frequency and Capacitance

1. Insert the black test lead into the COM terminal and the red test lead into the VΩ terminal.
2. Rotate the control knob to the Hz (Frequency) or F (Capacitance) position.
3. Connect the test probes across the circuit or component.
4. Read the frequency or capacitance value on the display.

Data Hold Function

Press the "HOLD" button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold and resume live readings. This is useful for recording measurements in difficult-to-view locations.
