Important Safety Information

Always wear your helmet correctly to ensure maximum protection. This helmet is designed to absorb impact energy through partial destruction of the helmet. Even if there is no visible damage, a helmet that has sustained an impact should be replaced. Do not modify the helmet or attach accessories not approved by Giro.

MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System)

The Crue MIPS helmet incorporates the Multi-Directional Impact Protection System, which is a low-friction layer designed to reduce rotational forces that can result from certain impacts. This system allows the helmet's outer shell to slide relative to the head in an angled impact, potentially reducing the amount of force transferred to the brain.

Setup and Fit

1. Proper Helmet Fit

A properly fitting helmet is crucial for safety and comfort. The helmet should fit snugly around the head without being uncomfortably tight. It should not move excessively when you shake your head. The Crue MIPS helmet features an In Form Fit System for easy adjustment.

  1. Measure Head Circumference: Use a soft measuring tape to measure the circumference of the head just above the eyebrows.
  2. Select Correct Size: Refer to the size chart provided by Giro to choose the appropriate helmet size.
  3. Adjust Fit System: Use the adjustable dial or mechanism at the back of the helmet to achieve a snug, comfortable fit. The helmet should sit level on the head, covering the forehead without obstructing vision.
  4. Chin Strap Adjustment: Fasten the chin strap securely so that it is snug under the chin but does not cause discomfort. There should be enough room to fit one finger between the strap and the chin.

2. Goggle Integration

The Crue MIPS helmet is designed for seamless compatibility with Giro youth goggles. The Stack Vent system helps prevent goggle fogging.

  • Place your goggles over your eyes and position the strap around the back of the helmet.
  • Secure the goggle strap using the removable goggle retainer clip located at the back of the helmet.
  • Ensure the top edge of the goggles sits flush with the helmet brim to prevent a gap.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning Your Helmet

To maintain the integrity and appearance of your helmet:

  • Clean the exterior with a soft cloth, mild soap, and water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • The interior padding and ear pads can be gently hand-washed with mild soap and water, then air-dried. Ensure they are completely dry before reattaching.
  • Do not immerse the entire helmet in water.

2. Storage

Store your helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid storing it near heat sources or in areas where it could be exposed to chemicals or solvents.

3. Inspection for Damage

Regularly inspect your helmet for any signs of damage:

  • Check the outer shell for cracks, dents, or deep scratches.
  • Examine the interior EPS foam for compression or cracks.
  • Inspect the chin strap and buckle for fraying or damage.
  • If any damage is found, or if the helmet has sustained an impact, it should be replaced immediately.

Troubleshooting

1. Helmet Feels Loose or Too Tight

Adjust the In Form Fit System dial at the back of the helmet. If the helmet still does not fit correctly after adjustment, ensure you have the correct size for your head circumference. Refer to the sizing guide.

2. Goggles Fogging Up

Ensure your goggles are properly seated with the helmet's Stack Vent. Check that the goggle lens has an anti-fog coating. If fogging persists, ensure adequate airflow by adjusting your goggle position or taking a brief break to allow moisture to dissipate.
