1. Overview

The YONGNUO YN6 is a compact and portable mini hot shoe flash speedlite designed to enhance your photography with compatible Sony cameras. Featuring a built-in lithium battery and Type-C charging, it offers convenience and reliable performance. Its adjustable lamp head and multiple power output levels provide flexibility for various lighting scenarios.

3. Setup

3.1 Attaching to Camera Hot Shoe

  1. Ensure your camera and the YN6 flash are powered off.
  2. Slide the hot shoe foot of the YN6 flash into the hot shoe mount on your compatible Sony camera.
  3. Secure the flash by tightening the locking wheel on the hot shoe foot until it is firmly attached.

3.2 Charging the Battery

The YN6 flash features a built-in 3.7V/700mAh polymer lithium battery. Charge the device using the provided Type-C charging cable.

  1. Connect the Type-C end of the charging cable to the charging interface on the YN6 flash.
  2. Connect the USB-A end of the charging cable to a compatible USB power source (e.g., wall adapter, computer USB port).
  3. The charging indicator light will show the charging status. Ensure the device is fully charged before first use for optimal battery life.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Powering On/Off

Locate the ON/OFF switch on the side of the flash unit. Slide the switch to the 'ON' position to power on the device. Slide it to the 'OFF' position to power it off.

4.2 Adjusting Flash Output Levels

The YN6 flash offers 4 levels of output control: 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, and 1/1 (full power). Use the dedicated buttons on the flash unit to cycle through these power settings to achieve the desired brightness for your shot.

4.3 Rotating the Lamp Head

The lamp head of the YN6 flash can be rotated freely by up to 105 degrees. This allows for creative lighting angles, including bouncing the flash off surfaces to soften light or achieve different effects.

4.4 Using Color Filter and Reflector Panel

The YN6 comes with an orange color filter sheet and a reflector panel. These accessories can be attached to the flash head to modify the light output:

  • Orange Color Filter: Use to warm up the light, matching indoor lighting or creating a specific mood.
  • Reflector Panel: Helps to direct and soften the light, reducing harsh shadows and creating a more even illumination.
