Model: 6060-17831-SIOC

Brand: Whitmor

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the assembly, operation, and maintenance of your Whitmor 3-Tier Heavy Duty Storage Shelves. Designed for versatility and durability, this shelving unit is suitable for various environments including kitchens, offices, garages, and bathrooms.

The unit features a robust steel construction with a chrome finish, adjustable shelves, and a high weight capacity. It can be configured with either wheels for mobility or leveling feet for stationary use.

2. Safety Information

  • Weight Capacity: Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 400 lbs per shelf or 1200 lbs total for the entire unit. Distribute weight evenly across shelves.
  • Stability: Ensure the unit is assembled correctly and placed on a level surface. If using leveling feet, adjust them to prevent wobbling. If using wheels, lock them when the unit is stationary.
  • Assembly: Follow all assembly instructions carefully. Do not force components. Ensure all parts are securely fastened before use.
  • Children: Keep children away from the unit during assembly. Do not allow children to climb on or play with the shelving unit.
  • Maintenance: Regularly inspect the unit for loose parts or damage. Tighten any loose connections.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all components are present before beginning assembly:

  • Shelves (3 pieces)
  • Vertical Poles (4 pieces, typically in sections)
  • Plastic Sleeves/Clips (enough for 3 shelves x 4 poles = 12 pairs)
  • Casters (4 pieces, 2 with locks)
  • Leveling Feet (4 pieces)

4. Assembly Instructions

Assembly is tool-free and straightforward. Please follow these steps:

  1. Prepare the Poles: Screw the top pole sections into the bottom pole sections to create four full-length vertical poles. Ensure they are securely tightened.
  2. Attach Bottom Supports: Decide whether to use the casters (wheels) for mobility or the leveling feet for stationary use. Screw the chosen supports into the bottom of each pole. If using casters, ensure the two locking casters are on the same side for easier access.
  3. Install First Shelf:
    • Locate the small grooves on the vertical poles. These are 1-inch increments for shelf adjustment.
    • Snap two plastic sleeves onto each pole at the desired height for the bottom shelf. Ensure the arrows on the sleeves point upwards and that all sleeves are at the same height on all four poles.
    • Slide the bottom shelf down over the poles until it rests firmly on the plastic sleeves. Gently tap the shelf corners with a rubber mallet (not included) or your hand to ensure it is seated securely.
  4. Install Remaining Shelves: Repeat step 3 for the remaining two shelves, positioning the plastic sleeves at your desired heights. Remember to ensure all sleeves for a single shelf are at the same level.
  5. Final Check: Once all shelves are in place, gently press down on each shelf to ensure it is fully seated and stable. If using leveling feet, adjust them to eliminate any wobbling. If using casters, lock them to prevent movement.

5. Operating Instructions

Your Whitmor shelving unit is designed for flexible storage and easy use.

  • Adjusting Shelves: The shelves can be adjusted in 1-inch increments. To reposition a shelf, first remove any items from it. Then, lift the shelf off the plastic sleeves. Remove the plastic sleeves from the poles and re-snap them at the new desired height. Finally, lower the shelf back onto the sleeves, ensuring it is level and secure.
  • Weight Distribution: For optimal stability and to prevent damage, distribute items evenly across each shelf. Avoid placing all heavy items on one side or concentrating weight in the center of a shelf.
  • Mobility (with wheels): If using casters, unlock the wheels to move the unit. Lock the wheels when the unit is in its desired position to prevent accidental movement.
  • Stationary Use (with leveling feet): If using leveling feet, ensure they are adjusted to make the unit stable and level on uneven surfaces.
