Product Overview
The Radtel RT-830 is a compact and robust handheld radio. Familiarize yourself with its components:

Setup
1. Battery Installation and Charging
The RT-830 comes with a 3500mAh Lithium Ion battery. Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use.
- Install Battery: Align the battery pack with the grooves on the back of the radio and slide it upwards until it clicks into place.
- Remove Battery: Press the battery release latch (usually at the bottom of the battery compartment) and slide the battery downwards to remove.
- Charging:
- Desktop Charger: Place the radio with the battery installed into the desktop charger cradle. The indicator light will show charging status (typically red for charging, green for fully charged).
- Type-C Charging: The radio supports direct charging via a USB Type-C cable. Connect the Type-C cable to the port on the side of the radio.
- Charge Battery Only: The desktop charger also allows charging the battery pack independently without the radio attached.

2. Antenna Installation
Screw the provided dual-band antenna clockwise into the antenna connector on the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.
3. Belt Clip Installation
Attach the belt clip to the back of the radio using the screws provided. This allows for convenient carrying.
Operating Instructions
1. Power On/Off and Volume Control
Rotate the top-left knob clockwise to power on the radio. Continue rotating to increase the volume. Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease volume and power off.
2. Channel Selection (CH/VFO Mode)
The RT-830 supports both Channel (Memory) mode and VFO (Frequency) mode. Press the V/M button on the keypad to switch between these modes.
- Channel Mode: Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys or the numeric keypad to select from the 128 pre-programmed channels.
- VFO Mode: Directly input frequencies using the numeric keypad.
3. Frequency Ranges and Bands
The radio operates across multiple bands for transmit and receive:
- Transmit/Receive (TX/RX):
- 144-148Mhz (VHF)
- 420-450Mhz (UHF)
- Receive Only (RX):
- 108-136Mhz AM (Air Band)
- 136-520Mhz (Wideband Receiver)

4. NOAA Weather Channel
The RT-830 can receive 8 US NOAA weather channels. Refer to the menu settings to activate and monitor these channels for weather alerts.
5. Keypad Lock
To prevent accidental key presses, press and hold the #V/M button to lock or unlock the keypad.
6. Backlight Select
Adjust the display backlight settings through the radio's menu to suit your environment and conserve battery life.
7. Voice Prompt (English/Chinese)
The radio offers voice prompts for various operations. You can select between English and Chinese languages in the settings menu.
8. Beep Tone / Roger Beep
Enable or disable keypad beep tones and the Roger Beep (a short tone transmitted at the end of your transmission) via the menu.
9. Dual Standby
The dual standby feature allows the radio to monitor two different frequencies simultaneously. If a signal is received on either frequency, the radio will switch to that frequency.
10. Repeater Offset
Configure the transmit frequency offset for repeater operation in the menu settings.
11. Bandwidth (Wide/Narrow)
Select between wideband (25kHz) and narrowband (12.5kHz) operation depending on the channel spacing requirements.
12. VOX / Squelch
- VOX (Voice Operated Transmit): Enables hands-free transmission when your voice is detected. Adjust VOX sensitivity in the menu.
- Squelch: Eliminates background noise when no signal is present. Adjust the squelch level to an appropriate setting to block static while still receiving weak signals.
13. Power Level (HI/LOW)
Select between High and Low transmit power levels to conserve battery life or extend range as needed.

14. TOT (Time-Out Timer) / Busy Channel Lockout
- TOT: Prevents excessively long transmissions by automatically stopping transmission after a preset time.
- Busy Channel Lockout (BCLO): Prevents transmission on a channel that is already in use.
15. Scrambler / Encrypt
Activate the scrambler function for basic voice privacy. Note that this is not a secure encryption method.
16. Frequency Scan
The scan function allows the radio to automatically search for active signals across a programmed frequency range or channels.
17. CTCSS / DCS
Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System (CTCSS) and Digital Coded Squelch (DCS) are used to filter out unwanted signals and allow you to hear only calls from specific groups using the same tone/code.
18. Emergency SOS
The radio features an emergency SOS function. Refer to the menu for activation and configuration of this feature.
19. DTMF / 1750Hz Tone
Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) signaling can be used for various functions, such as remote control of repeaters. A 1750Hz tone burst is also available for repeater access.
20. Fast Copy Frequency
This feature allows for quick copying of a received frequency into a memory channel.
21. Hands-free Transmit
In addition to VOX, the radio may offer other hands-free transmit options. Consult the full menu for details.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the radio's surface. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Battery Care:
- Avoid overcharging or completely discharging the battery.
- Store the battery in a cool, dry place if not used for extended periods.
- Recharge the battery every 3-6 months during long-term storage to maintain its health.
- Storage: Store the radio in a dry, dust-free environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Water Resistance: The Radtel RT-830 is Not Water Resistant. Avoid exposure to water or high humidity.
