The thermometer is now ready for use. If the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries promptly.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Basic Operation
To take a temperature reading:
- Point the thermometer at the target surface. Ensure the distance-to-spot ratio (12:1) is considered for accurate readings.
- Pull and hold the trigger. The laser pointer will activate (if enabled) to help aim, and the display will show the current temperature.
- Release the trigger to hold the reading on the display. The device will automatically shut off after 30 seconds of inactivity to conserve battery.

- HOLD: Indicates data hold function is active.
- SCAN: Indicates the device is actively scanning for temperature.
- °C/°F Switch: Press the °C/°F button to toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
- MAX/MIN/AVG: Use the 'MODE' button to cycle through Maximum, Minimum, and Average temperature readings.
- Infrared On/Off: The laser pointer can be toggled on or off.
- Backlight ON/OFF: The display backlight can be turned on or off for visibility in different lighting conditions.
- Low Battery Indicator: An icon will appear when batteries need replacement.
6.3 Adjustable Emissivity
Emissivity is the ability of a material to emit energy. Different materials have different emissivity values. This thermometer allows you to adjust the emissivity from 0.10 to 1.00 (default 0.95) for more accurate readings on various surfaces.
- While the device is on, press the 'MODE' button until 'EMI' appears on the display.
- Use the up/down arrow buttons to adjust the emissivity value.
- Refer to common emissivity tables for specific materials to achieve optimal accuracy.

8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not turn on. | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. | Check battery polarity or replace with new AAA batteries. |
| Inaccurate readings. | Incorrect emissivity setting; target too far; lens dirty; device not designed for human temperature. | Adjust emissivity for the material; ensure proper distance; clean the lens; remember it's not for human use. |
| Laser not visible. | Laser function is turned off. | Press the laser button to turn it on. |
| Display is dim or flickering. | Low battery. | Replace batteries. |
