4. Operating Instructions

All programming and operational control of the ESP-BAT-BT1 controller are managed through the Rain Bird 2.0 mobile application.

4.1. Basic Programming

The controller supports four independent programs (A, B, C, D), each capable of having up to 8 start times per day. Stations can be assigned to multiple programs with different watering run times.

  • Setting Run Times: Adjust run times from 7 seconds to 9 hours (up to 18 hours with 200% seasonal adjust) in 1-second increments.
  • Watering Days: Choose from custom, even, odd, or cyclical watering day modes. You can also set permanent days off to exclude specific days of the week.
  • Seasonal Adjust: Utilize the Global Monthly Seasonal Adjust feature to modify watering duration for the entire year, from 0% to 200%, in 1% increments.

4.2. Advanced App Features in Operation

  • Manual Watering: Initiate manual watering cycles directly from the app for specific stations or programs.
  • Rain Delay: If rain is expected, use the Rain Delay feature to suspend irrigation for up to 14 days. The system will automatically resume after the set delay.
  • Cycle & Soak: To prevent water runoff, enable Cycle & Soak. This feature divides the total watering time into shorter intervals, allowing water to absorb into the soil.
  • Offline Mode: Make programming changes in the app even without a Bluetooth connection. These changes will be saved and synchronized with the controller once a connection is re-established.
  • Controller Sharing: Share access to your controller with other users (e.g., maintenance teams) through the app for collaborative management.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Rain Bird ESP-BAT-BT1 controller.

5.1. Battery Maintenance

  • Battery Life: The controller is designed for up to 5 years of battery life with quality AA alkaline batteries.
  • Battery Replacement: When the app indicates low battery (map pins turn red when below 30%), replace all four AA batteries promptly. Refer to Section 3.1 for battery replacement instructions.
  • Battery Status Monitoring: Regularly check the battery status via the Rain Bird 2.0 app's Quick Status or Advanced Mapping features.

5.2. Environmental Protection

  • IP68 Rating: The controller's IP68 rating means it is fully protected against dust and can withstand immersion in water. No special cleaning is typically required for the housing.
  • Wire Connections: Periodically inspect wire connections for any signs of wear, corrosion, or damage, especially in harsh environments. Ensure all connections remain secure.
