4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Measurement Process
- Ensure the soil is moist enough for accurate readings. If the soil is too dry, readings may be inaccurate or unavailable.
- Gently insert the probe of the soil tester into the soil to a depth of approximately 3-4.7 inches (7.5-12 cm). Avoid forcing the probe into hard soil to prevent damage.
- Wait for 3-5 seconds for the readings to stabilize. The data will be displayed in real-time on the connected mobile application.
- Review the measurements for soil moisture, pH, EC, fertility, salt, temperature, air humidity, and light intensity.
- After use, gently remove the probe from the soil.
4.2. Usage Restrictions and Important Notes
- For Soil Testing Only: This device is designed exclusively for testing soil.
- Do Not Test Liquids: Avoid using the meter to test any liquids, including water, nutrient solutions, or other fluids, as this can damage the sensor and lead to inaccurate readings.
- Suitable Soil Types: Best results are obtained in most common reasonably mixed soils and natural organic plant soils.
- Unsuitable Soil Types: Do not use in hard soil rocks, natural sandy soil, organic coconut fiber, full roots, plants ash, or slurry soil. These conditions can damage the probe or yield unreliable data.

5. Understanding Your Readings
The Yewhick YY-1088W-Top provides detailed insights into various soil and environmental parameters:
- Soil Moisture (5 levels):
1-2: Too Dry
3-4: Slightly Dry
5-6: Just Right
7: Relatively Humid
8+: Too Wet - Light Scale (Relative Light Intensity 0-9999 Lux):
1-3 grid: Dark
4-6 grid: Normal
7-9 grid: Bright - pH Sensor (pH Range 0-14):
3-4: Strongly Acidic
5-6: Slightly Acidic
7: Neutral
8-9: Slightly Alkaline
10-14: Strong Alkaline - EC Sensor (EC Range 0.01-10.00 mS/cm):
Optimal EC range: 0.8-2.4 mS/cm. Check the soil to keep the pH and EC of the planting soil correct. - Fertility Sensor (Fertility Range 0-99%):
0-40%: Low
40-70%: Medium
70-99%: High - SALT Sensor (SALT Range 0.000-5110 mg/L):
Monitors the salt content in the soil. - Soil Temperature (Temperature Range 0.0°C-80.0°C / 32.0°F-176.0°F):
Seeds germinate at an average soil temperature of 15-25°C. Root growth becomes more active around 20°C, but is inhibited at temperatures above 30°C. - Air Humidity (RH% Range 0-99%):
Measures the ambient air humidity around the plant.

6. Maintenance
6.1. Cleaning the Probe
After each use, it is crucial to clean the probe thoroughly to ensure accuracy and longevity. Use the provided cleaning cloth and brush to gently wipe off any soil residue from the probe. Do not use abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
6.2. Calibration
The device includes a calibration kit for pH and EC. Refer to the specific instructions within the mobile application for detailed calibration procedures to maintain measurement accuracy.
6.3. Storage
Store the soil tester in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure the probe is completely dry before storage.
7. Troubleshooting
- No Reading or Inaccurate Readings:
- Ensure the probe is inserted deep enough (3-4.7 inches) into the soil.
- Verify the soil is adequately moist. Very dry soil may not yield readings.
- Clean the probe thoroughly. Residue can affect conductivity.
- Perform a calibration using the provided kit and app instructions. - Device Not Connecting to App:
- Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone.
- Make sure the app has location permissions granted.
- Restart the app and try reconnecting.
- Check if the device batteries are depleted (though they are pre-installed for long use). - App Display Issues:
- Ensure your app is updated to the latest version.
- Check your phone's display settings for optimal viewing.
