5. Setup and Installation

The installation process involves mounting the appropriate bracket for your CPU socket, applying thermal paste, and securing the cooler. Always refer to your motherboard manual for specific CPU cooler clearance and installation guidelines.

5.1. Preparation

  1. Power off your computer and disconnect all cables.
  2. Open your computer case to access the motherboard.
  3. Remove any existing CPU cooler and clean the CPU surface thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol to remove old thermal paste.

5.2. Mounting Bracket Installation (Intel LGA 115X/1200/1700/1851)

  1. Place the Intel backplate behind the motherboard, aligning the holes with the CPU socket mounting holes.
  2. Insert the four universal screws through the motherboard from the front, securing them into the backplate.
  3. Attach the Intel mounting brackets to the universal screws on the front side of the motherboard, securing them with the provided nuts.

5.3. Mounting Bracket Installation (AMD AM4/AM5)

  1. Remove the stock plastic retention clips from the motherboard, but retain the original backplate.
  2. Attach the AMD mounting brackets to the original backplate's screw posts on the front side of the motherboard, securing them with the provided screws.

5.4. Cooler Installation

  1. Apply a small amount of thermal paste (pea-sized dot or thin line) to the center of the CPU's integrated heat spreader (IHS).
  2. Carefully place the RT620 heatsink onto the CPU, aligning the mounting holes on the cooler with the brackets.
  3. Use the fastening clips to secure the heatsink to the mounting brackets. Tighten screws gradually in a cross pattern to ensure even pressure.
  4. Connect the 4-pin PWM fan cable from the cooler to the CPU_FAN header on your motherboard. If using the fan adapter cable, connect both fans to it, then connect the adapter to the CPU_FAN header.

6. Operating Instructions

The PCCOOLER RT620 operates automatically via the motherboard's PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) control. The fans will adjust their speed based on the CPU temperature, ensuring optimal cooling performance and noise levels.

6.1. Fan Control

  • The fans are designed to operate in three modes (silent, balanced, performance) depending on the PWM signal from the motherboard. These modes are typically configured within your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings or through manufacturer-provided software.
  • For optimal performance, ensure the CPU_FAN header is configured for PWM control in your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your CPU cooler.

  • Dust Removal: Periodically (every 3-6 months, or more frequently in dusty environments) use compressed air to clean dust from the heatsink fins and fan blades. Ensure the fans are held stationary while cleaning to prevent over-spinning and potential damage.
  • Thermal Paste: The thermal paste typically lasts for several years. If you notice a significant increase in CPU temperatures, consider reapplying fresh thermal paste. This requires removing the cooler, cleaning the old paste from both the CPU and cooler base, and applying new paste.
  • Fan Inspection: Check fan cables for secure connections and ensure fan blades are free from obstructions. Listen for unusual noises from the fans, which could indicate a bearing issue.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your PCCOOLER RT620, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

8.1. High CPU Temperatures

  • Check Fan Connection: Ensure the fan cable is securely connected to the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard.
  • Verify Fan Operation: Confirm that both fans are spinning when the computer is on. If not, check connections or consider a faulty fan.
  • Thermal Paste Application: Incorrect or insufficient thermal paste application can lead to poor heat transfer. Reapply thermal paste if necessary, ensuring even coverage.
  • Heatsink Contact: Ensure the heatsink is making firm, even contact with the CPU. Re-tighten mounting screws in a cross pattern if needed.
  • Dust Buildup: Clean any dust accumulated on the heatsink fins and fan blades.
  • BIOS/UEFI Settings: Check your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI for fan speed settings. Ensure PWM control is enabled and fan curves are set appropriately.

8.2. Excessive Fan Noise

  • Dust Buildup: Clean fans and heatsink to remove any dust that might be causing imbalance or obstruction.
  • Fan Obstruction: Ensure no cables or other components are touching the fan blades.
  • BIOS/UEFI Settings: Adjust fan speed curves in your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI to a quieter profile if temperatures allow.
  • Loose Mounting: A loosely mounted cooler can sometimes cause vibrations and noise. Ensure the cooler is securely fastened.

8.3. Cooler Not Fitting

  • Case Clearance: Verify your PC case has sufficient height clearance for the RT620 (6.02 inches / 153mm).
  • RAM Clearance: The dual-tower design may interfere with tall RAM modules. Ensure your RAM has adequate clearance or adjust fan position if possible.
  • Motherboard Compatibility: Double-check that your motherboard socket (Intel LGA 115X/1200/1700/1851 or AMD AM4/AM5) is supported and you are using the correct mounting hardware.
