5. Setup

5.1 Physical Installation

  1. Choose a suitable location for the controller. It can be installed indoors or outdoors, but ensure it is protected from direct sunlight and extreme weather conditions.
  2. Use the provided mounting screws and anchors to securely attach the controller to a wall or sturdy surface.

5.2 Wiring Connections

Connect your irrigation valves and power adapter to the controller as follows:

  • Master Valve/Pump (M): Connect the common wire from your master valve or pump to the 'M' terminal.
  • Zone Valves (1-4): Connect the control wires from each of your 4 zone valves to the corresponding numbered terminals (1, 2, 3, 4).
  • Common Wire (C): Connect the common wire from all your zone valves to the 'C' terminal.
  • Rain Sensor (S): If using an optional rain sensor, connect its wires to the 'S' terminals.
  • Power (24VAC): Connect the provided power adapter to the '24VAC' terminals.

5.3 App Download and WiFi Connection

  1. Download the "Inkbird Irrigation" app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
  2. Register an account or log in if you already have one.
  3. Ensure your smartphone is connected to a 2.4GHz WiFi network. The controller does not support 5GHz networks.
  4. Open the app, tap the "+" icon in the top right corner to add a device, and select "IIC-400-WIFI".
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions in the app to connect the controller to your WiFi network. This typically involves pressing a button on the controller to enter pairing mode.
  6. Once connected, the WiFi indicator on the controller will be solid, and the device will appear in your app.

6. Operating Instructions

All operations are performed through the Inkbird Irrigation app.

6.1 Automatic Watering Modes

The controller offers four cyclic options to determine watering frequency for each zone:

  • Days of the Week: Select specific days (e.g., Mon, Wed, Fri).
  • Intervals: Water every 'X' number of days.
  • Odd Days: Water on odd-numbered days of the month.
  • Even Days: Water on even-numbered days of the month.

You can program a separate watering schedule for each zone.

6.2 Setting Start Times

For each zone, you can set up to 6 start times per day. This allows for precise watering based on plant needs and environmental conditions.

6.3 Manual Watering

To provide extra water in dry weather or for specific needs, you can initiate manual watering:

  1. Open the Inkbird Irrigation app.
  2. Navigate to the manual watering section.
  3. Select the desired zone(s) and set the watering duration.
  4. Start the manual watering cycle.

6.4 Seasonal Adjustment

The seasonal adjustment feature allows you to easily modify the watering duration for all active programs with a single setting. This is useful for adapting to seasonal changes without reprogramming each schedule individually.

  1. In the app, find the Seasonal Adjustment setting.
  2. Adjust the percentage to increase or decrease watering duration across all zones. For example, setting it to 50% will halve all scheduled watering times.

6.5 Rain Skip Function

If an optional rain sensor is connected, the controller can automatically pause irrigation during rainfall, preventing overwatering and saving water.

  1. Ensure your rain sensor is correctly wired to the 'S' terminals.
  2. Enable the rain skip function within the app settings.
  3. The system will automatically detect rain and temporarily suspend scheduled watering.

6.6 Viewing Watering History

The app allows you to view your watering schedules for the next 3 months and review the history of the last 6 months. This helps in monitoring water usage and optimizing schedules.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the controller's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Connection Check: Periodically inspect all wiring connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Weather Protection: If installed outdoors, ensure the weatherproof cover remains properly sealed to protect internal components.
  • Software Updates: Keep the Inkbird Irrigation app updated to the latest version for optimal performance and new features.
