Setup
Setting the Time and Date
- Unscrew the Crown (if applicable): If your watch has a screw-down crown, gently unscrew it counter-clockwise until it springs out to position 1.
- Position 1 (Winding): In this position, you can manually wind the watch by turning the crown clockwise. Wind approximately 20-30 times to initiate power reserve if the watch has stopped.
- Position 2 (Date/Weekday Setting): Pull the crown out one more click to position 2.
- Turn the crown clockwise to adjust the date.
- Turn the crown counter-clockwise to adjust the weekday.
- Note: Avoid setting the date or weekday between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement. If the current time falls within this window, first set the time outside this period, then adjust the date/weekday, and finally set the correct time.
- Position 3 (Time Setting): Pull the crown out to its outermost position (position 3). Turn the crown to set the hour and minute hands. Advance the hands past 12 o'clock to determine if it is AM or PM (the date will change at midnight).
- Push and Screw Down the Crown: Once the time, date, and weekday are set, push the crown back into position 0. If it's a screw-down crown, gently push it in and screw it clockwise until it is securely tightened against the case to maintain water resistance.
Operating the Automatic Movement
Your Bauhaus Aviation watch is equipped with an automatic movement, Caliber 8285. This movement is self-winding, meaning it gains power from the motion of your wrist during wear.
- Initial Winding: If the watch has stopped, manually wind it using the crown (as described in Setup) to provide an initial power reserve.
- Daily Wear: Wearing the watch for approximately 8-10 hours a day will typically keep it fully wound.
- Power Reserve: When fully wound, the watch has a power reserve that allows it to run for a certain period (typically 38-42 hours) when not worn. If left unworn for an extended period, it will stop and require manual winding or wearing to restart.
Maintenance
Water Resistance
The watch is water-protected to 5 ATM (50 meters), tested according to DIN standard 8310. This means it is suitable for everyday use and can withstand splashes, rain, and brief immersion in water. However, it is not suitable for swimming, showering, or diving. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in and, if applicable, screwed down to maintain water resistance.
General Care
- Cleaning: Wipe the watch case and crystal with a soft, dry cloth. For the leather strap, avoid excessive moisture and harsh chemicals.
- Temperature: Avoid exposing the watch to extreme temperatures (hot or cold) or sudden temperature changes.
- Chemicals: Keep the watch away from solvents, detergents, perfumes, and cosmetics, as these can damage the case, strap, and seals.
- Magnetic Fields: Strong magnetic fields can affect the accuracy of mechanical watches. Keep your watch away from strong magnets (e.g., speakers, refrigerators, certain electronic devices).
- Leather Strap Care: Leather straps are susceptible to wear and tear from moisture, sweat, and direct sunlight. Clean with a damp cloth and mild soap if necessary, then allow to air dry completely. Avoid prolonged exposure to water.
