Mounting:

  • Choose a suitable location for installation, typically near potential gas sources but away from direct drafts or obstructions.
  • Use the provided mounting screws to secure the back cover to the wall or ceiling.
  • Attach the detector unit to the mounted back cover by aligning and twisting.

Initial Power-On and Self-Test:

  • Upon battery installation, the detector will perform an automatic self-test, indicated by a countdown on the LED display and flashing lights.
  • Once the self-test is complete, the display will show '0' PPM and the green 'POWER' indicator will light up, signifying normal operation.

Operating Instructions

Normal Operation:

In normal operation, the green 'POWER' indicator light will flash periodically, and the LED display will show '0' PPM (parts per million) for carbon monoxide or '0' LEL (lower explosive limit) for natural gas, indicating no detected gas.

Alarm Modes:

When gas levels exceed the preset thresholds, the detector will activate audible and visual alarms:

  • Audible Alarm: A loud alarm sound exceeding 85dB will be emitted.
  • Visual Alarm: The red 'ALERT' indicator light will flash, and the LED display will show the detected gas concentration.
  • CO Alarm Threshold: 150 PPM
  • CH4 Alarm Threshold: 8% LEL

Testing the Detector:

Press the 'TEST/SILENCE' button to initiate a self-test. The alarm will sound, and lights will flash, confirming proper functionality.

Silence Function:

During an alarm, pressing the 'TEST/SILENCE' button will temporarily silence the audible alarm for a short period, allowing you to investigate the source of the gas leak. The visual alerts will continue until the gas concentration drops below the alarm threshold.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement:

When the batteries are low, the detector may indicate a fault or low battery warning. Replace all three AA batteries promptly to ensure continuous protection. Refer to the 'Battery Installation' section for instructions.

Cleaning:

Regularly clean the exterior of the detector with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Do not paint the detector, as this can interfere with sensor operation.

Sensor Life:

The sensor in this detector has an expected lifespan of 10 years. After this period, the unit should be replaced to ensure continued accuracy and reliability.

Troubleshooting

Fault Indication:

If the yellow 'FAULT' indicator light illuminates or the unit beeps intermittently (e.g., every 30-60 seconds) outside of a normal alarm, it indicates a malfunction. This may occur even with new batteries.

  • Action: If a fault persists after replacing batteries and re-testing, the unit is faulty and should be replaced immediately. Do not rely on a faulty detector for safety.

False Alarms:

Ensure the detector is not placed near sources of fumes (e.g., cleaning products, paint, strong odors) that could trigger a false alarm. Verify that the detector is not exposed to extreme temperatures or humidity.

Testing with Gas:

To test the gas detection function, use a gas collection bag to release a small amount of carbon monoxide or combustible gas directly into the detector's air intake. Do not use lighters or other open flames, as the high-precision methane sensor is not sensitive to liquefied petroleum gas from lighters and this can damage the unit.
