5. Setup and Connection

Follow these steps to set up your Cuifati Sensor Module:

  1. Connect the pH Probe: Carefully connect the BNC connector of the pH probe to the corresponding BNC input on the sensor module. Ensure a secure connection.
  2. pH probe connected to sensor module

Figure 2: The pH probe securely connected to the sensor module via the BNC connector.

  3. Power Connection: Connect the sensor module to a 5.00V power source using the appropriate power input. The Power Indicator LED on the module should illuminate.
  4. Data Interface: Connect the pH2.0 interface (3-foot patch) of the module to your microcontroller or data acquisition system. Refer to your system's documentation for specific wiring diagrams.
  5. Close-up of sensor module with connections

Figure 3: Detailed view of the sensor module, showing the BNC connector, pH2.0 interface, and gain adjustment potentiometer.

  6. Initial Calibration: Before first use, it is recommended to calibrate the pH sensor using standard buffer solutions (e.g., pH 4.0, 7.0, and 10.0). Adjust the Gain Adjustment Potentiometer on the module as needed during calibration to achieve accurate readings.

6. Operating Instructions

Once the module is set up, follow these guidelines for operation:

  1. Prepare Sample: Ensure the aqueous solution to be measured is at a temperature between 0 - 60 °C for optimal accuracy.
  2. Immerse Electrode: Gently immerse the tip of the pH probe into the sample solution. Ensure the electrode is fully submerged but avoid touching the bottom or sides of the container.
  3. pH electrode being immersed in a beaker of liquid

Figure 4: Proper immersion of the pH electrode into a sample solution for measurement.

  4. Allow for Stabilization: Wait approximately 1 minute for the reading to stabilize. The response time of the sensor is typically within this duration.
  5. Record Reading: Read the pH value from your connected data acquisition system or display.
  6. Prevent Cross-Contamination: When measuring different solutions, thoroughly rinse the electrode with distilled water between measurements to prevent cross-contamination and maintain accuracy.

7. Maintenance and Care

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your sensor module:

  • Keep Electrode Plug Clean and Dry: Always ensure the electrode plug is clean and dry before connecting or disconnecting to prevent damage or inaccurate readings.
  • Text overlay emphasizing electrode care

Figure 5: Important reminders for electrode maintenance, including keeping the plug clean and dry, using 3NKCL solution, and avoiding acidic fluoride solutions.

  • Electrode Storage: When not in use, store the electrode in its protective cap with a small amount of 3NKCL solution to keep the glass bulb hydrated. Do not store dry.
  • Avoid Acidic Fluoride Solutions: Do not immerse the electrode in acidic fluoride solutions for extended periods, as this can damage the glass membrane.
  • Regular Calibration: Calibrate the sensor regularly, especially if precise measurements are critical or if the sensor has been stored for a long time.
  • Cleaning the Electrode: If the electrode becomes dirty, gently clean it with distilled water. For stubborn deposits, consult specialized pH electrode cleaning solutions.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Cuifati Sensor Module, consider the following:

  • Inaccurate Readings:
    • Ensure the electrode is properly calibrated.
    • Check if the electrode plug is clean and dry.
    • Verify the temperature of the solution is within the specified range (0-60 °C).
    • Rinse the electrode thoroughly between different samples.
  • No Reading/Module Not Responding:
    • Check the 5.00V power supply connection to the module. Ensure the Power Indicator LED is on.
    • Verify the connection between the pH probe and the module.
    • Inspect the pH2.0 interface connection to your microcontroller/system.
  • Slow Response Time:
    • Ensure the electrode is properly hydrated (stored in 3NKCL solution).
    • The electrode might need cleaning or recalibration.
