1. Introduction

The Shark POWERDETECT Upright Vacuum Cleaner is engineered for powerful cleaning performance across various floor types. Featuring DuoClean Technology, Odor Neutralizer Technology, Powered Lift-Away, a Self-Cleaning Brushroll, and Anti-Allergen Complete Seal, this vacuum is designed to provide a thorough and hygienic cleaning experience.

Key Features:

• DuoClean Detect: Two brushrolls with four Intelli-Sense sensors automatically adapt to hidden dirt, debris, and pet hair, boosting suction and brushroll speed for optimal performance on carpets and hard floors.
• Dirt Detect: Senses embedded dirt and automatically increases cleaning power.
• Edge Detect: Increases suction power within 2 inches of edges for maximum cleaning along walls and corners.

2. Setup and Assembly

Before first use, ensure all components are present and assemble the vacuum cleaner according to the following steps:

1. Unpack all components from the packaging.
2. Insert the wand into the floor nozzle until it clicks securely into place.
3. Slide the handle onto the top of the wand until it clicks.
4. Attach the hose to the back of the vacuum pod, ensuring it clicks into place.
5. Secure the hose clip to the wand.
6. Place the included accessories (Crevice Tool, HairPro Self Cleaning Pet Power Brush, Pet-Multi Tool) onto the onboard storage posts.
7. Insert the Odor Neutralizer Technology Cartridge into its designated slot on the vacuum.

3. Operating Instructions

The Shark POWERDETECT vacuum offers versatile cleaning modes and intelligent detection features for optimal performance.

Powering On and Mode Selection:

• Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet.
• Press the Power button on the handle to turn the vacuum on.
• Select the appropriate floor setting (Hard Floor, Carpet/Low Pile, Thick Carpet/Area Rug) using the mode selector on the handle. The vacuum will automatically adjust suction and brushroll speed based on the Floor Detect sensor.

Intelli-Sense Detection Features:

The vacuum's Intelli-Sense sensors continuously monitor the cleaning environment and adjust performance automatically.

• Dirt Detect: When the vacuum encounters areas with high concentrations of dirt, debris, or pet hair, the Dirt Detect sensor will illuminate, and the vacuum will automatically boost its cleaning power to effectively remove the embedded particles. This allows for targeted cleaning without manual adjustment.

• Edge Detect: As you vacuum near edges or walls, the Edge Detect sensor will activate, increasing suction power within 2 inches of the boundary. This ensures thorough cleaning along baseboards and in corners, minimizing the need for additional attachments.

• Floor Detect: The ultra-sonic Floor Detect sensor automatically identifies the type of flooring (e.g., hard floor, carpet) and adjusts the brushroll speed and suction power for optimal cleaning performance on that specific surface. This ensures efficient cleaning without manual floor type selection.

• Direction Detect: This sensor recognizes the direction you are vacuuming (forward or reverse) and automatically directs powerful suction to that direction. This feature ensures maximum cleaning efficiency in both directions, saving time during cleaning.

Using Powered Lift-Away Mode:

To clean hard-to-reach areas, under furniture, or stairs, detach the pod from the floor nozzle by pressing the Lift-Away button. The brushrolls will continue to spin, providing powered cleaning. You can use the wand with attachments or detach the handle from the wand for closer access.

Using Attachments:

Connect the Crevice Tool, HairPro Self Cleaning Pet Power Brush, or Pet-Multi Tool directly to the handle, wand, or hose for specialized cleaning tasks.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your Shark vacuum cleaner.

Emptying the Dust Cup:

• Press the dust cup release latch and lift the dust cup off the vacuum pod.
• Hold the dust cup over a trash bin and press the bottom release latch to open the bottom of the dust cup.
• If necessary, press the top release latch to open the top of the dust cup and remove any accumulated debris from the lint screen.
• Close both latches securely before reattaching the dust cup.

Cleaning and Replacing Filters:

For best results, rinse filters regularly and allow them to air dry completely before reinstalling. Do not wash filters in a dishwasher or washing machine.

• Pre-Motor Filters (Foam & Felt): Locate these filters above the dust cup. Rinse them with water every 3 months or as needed.
• Post-Motor HEPA Filter: Located at the bottom of the vacuum pod. Rinse with water once a year or as needed.

Self-Cleaning Brushroll Maintenance:

The self-cleaning brushroll is designed to prevent hair wrap. If any hair or debris remains wrapped around the brushroll, carefully remove it with scissors or by hand. Regularly check the brushroll for any obstructions.

Odor Neutralizer Technology Cartridge:

The Odor Neutralizer Technology Cartridge helps to guard against bad odors. Replace the cartridge when the scent diminishes or as needed to maintain freshness. Refer to the product packaging for replacement cartridge information.
