1. Product Overview

The Grandstream GWN7604 is a compact and powerful Wi-Fi 6 Access Point designed to provide reliable, high-speed wireless connectivity. It is suitable for small businesses, hotels, and home offices, ensuring seamless performance even in high-density environments. This device features dual-band Wi-Fi and advanced MU-MIMO technology, along with four Gigabit Ethernet ports, including one PoE/PoE+ uplink port and two Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) ports for flexible connectivity.

2. Setup Guide

2.1 Physical Installation

The GWN7604 can be mounted on a wall or ceiling using the provided mounting kits. Ensure the chosen location provides optimal Wi-Fi coverage and is within reach of a Power over Ethernet (PoE) source or a suitable power adapter (not included).

  1. Select a central location for best signal distribution.
  2. Use the mounting bracket as a template to mark drilling points.
  3. Secure the mounting bracket to the surface.
  4. Attach the GWN7604 Access Point to the secured bracket.

2.2 Powering On

The GWN7604 supports PoE/PoE+ for power. Connect an Ethernet cable from a PoE/PoE+ enabled switch or injector to the uplink port on the GWN7604. The device will power on automatically. A power adapter is not included with this model.

2.3 Initial Configuration

To configure the GWN7604, connect a computer to the same network segment as the Access Point. The device will obtain an IP address via DHCP by default. You can discover its IP address using the Grandstream GWN Discovery Tool or by checking your DHCP server's lease table. Access the web interface by entering the IP address into a web browser.

  • Open a web browser and enter the GWN7604's IP address.
  • Log in using the default credentials (typically found in the Quick Installation Guide or on the device label).
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to set up your Wi-Fi network (SSID, password, security type).

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Network Configuration

Once logged into the web interface, you can configure various network settings:

  • SSID Management: Create multiple Wi-Fi networks (SSIDs) for different purposes (e.g., staff, guest).
  • Security Settings: Configure WPA2/WPA3 encryption for secure wireless access.
  • VLAN Tagging: Assign VLANs to SSIDs for network segmentation.
  • Radio Settings: Adjust channel, bandwidth, and transmit power for optimal performance.

3.2 Client Device Connection

To connect a client device (smartphone, laptop, tablet) to the GWN7604 Wi-Fi network:

  1. On your device, scan for available Wi-Fi networks.
  2. Select the SSID you configured for the GWN7604.
  3. Enter the Wi-Fi password when prompted.
  4. Your device should now be connected to the network.

3.3 Advanced Features

  • Quality of Service (QoS): Prioritize network traffic for critical applications (e.g., VoIP, video conferencing).
  • Guest Network: Create isolated networks for guests with limited access.

  2. Download the firmware file.
  3. Access the GWN7604 web interface and navigate to the firmware upgrade section.
  4. Upload the downloaded firmware file and initiate the upgrade process. Do not power off the device during the upgrade.

4.2 Regular Checks

Perform routine checks to ensure the Access Point is functioning correctly:

  • Monitor the LED indicators for normal operation status.
  • Check the system logs in the web interface for any errors or warnings.
  • Ensure the physical connections are secure and free from damage.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Common Issues and Solutions

  • No Power:
    Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to a PoE/PoE+ source. Verify the PoE source is active and providing power.
  • No Wi-Fi Signal:
    Check if the GWN7604 is powered on. Verify that the Wi-Fi radio is enabled in the web interface. Ensure the SSID is broadcasted and not hidden.
  • Slow Wi-Fi Speeds:
    Check for channel interference using a Wi-Fi analyzer and switch to a less congested channel. Ensure client devices are within optimal range. Verify firmware is up to date.
  • Cannot Access Web Interface:
    Confirm your computer is on the same network segment as the GWN7604. Verify the IP address is correct. Try resetting the device to factory defaults (refer to the Quick Installation Guide for the reset procedure).
  • Client Devices Cannot Connect:
    Double-check the Wi-Fi password. Ensure the maximum number of concurrent clients (256) has not been exceeded. Verify security settings are compatible with client devices.
