4.2 Initializing the SSD (First Use)
For first-time use, your operating system may prompt you to initialize and format the SSD. Follow your operating system's instructions to prepare the drive. Typically, this involves:
- Opening Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS).
- Locating the new drive.
- Initializing the disk (e.g., GPT partition style).
- Creating a new simple volume and formatting it with a suitable file system (e.g., NTFS for Windows, APFS/HFS+ for macOS).
5. Operation
5.1 Data Transfer
Once the FlashGo SSD is connected and recognized by your computer, you can transfer files by dragging and dropping them between your computer's storage and the FlashGo drive. For optimal performance, ensure you are connected to a Thunderbolt 4 (40Gbps) or USB-C (10Gbps) port.

6. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your ORICO FlashGo External SSD, consider the following maintenance tips:
- Safe Ejection: Always safely eject the SSD from your operating system before disconnecting it to prevent data corruption.
- Physical Care: Avoid dropping or subjecting the device to strong impacts. While durable, extreme physical shock can damage internal components.
- Temperature Control: The built-in fan helps manage heat. Ensure the fan vents are not obstructed to allow for proper airflow. Avoid operating in extremely hot or cold environments.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
- Firmware Updates: Periodically check the ORICO official website for any available firmware updates for your model to ensure continued performance and compatibility.

7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your ORICO FlashGo SSD, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Device Not Recognized:
- Ensure all cables (power and data) are securely connected.
- Verify the FlashGo SSD is powered on (blue LED indicator).
- Try connecting to a different USB/Thunderbolt port on your computer.
- Test with a different data cable if available.
- Check Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS) to see if the drive appears but is uninitialized or unformatted.
- Slow Transfer Speeds:
- Ensure you are using a Thunderbolt 4 (40Gbps) compatible port and cable for maximum speed. USB-C (10Gbps) and USB 3.0 ports will yield lower speeds.
- Close other applications that might be consuming system resources or disk bandwidth.
- Verify your computer's drivers for USB/Thunderbolt ports are up to date.
- Device Overheating:
- Ensure the fan vents on the FlashGo SSD are not blocked.
- Avoid placing the device in enclosed spaces where heat can accumulate.
- Prolonged heavy usage can generate heat; this is normal, but ensure adequate ventilation.
