1. Introduction

Welcome to the ENGWE Y400 Electric Scooter user manual. This guide provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your new electric scooter. The ENGWE Y400 is designed for both urban commuting and off-road adventures, featuring a powerful 750W peak motor, C-shaped suspension, and a foldable design for convenience.

2. Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating the ENGWE Y400. Read and understand all safety warnings before your first ride.

  • Always wear a helmet and appropriate safety gear (knee pads, elbow pads, gloves) when riding.
  • Do not operate the scooter under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Adhere to local traffic laws and regulations.
  • Avoid riding in heavy rain, snow, or icy conditions. While the scooter has an IPX5 waterproof rating, it is not designed for submersion or heavy water exposure.
  • Ensure all components, especially brakes and tires, are in good working order before each ride.
  • Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Do not exceed the maximum weight limit of 265 lbs (120 kg).

3. Setup

Your ENGWE Y400 Electric Scooter is 90% pre-installed. Follow these steps for final assembly and preparation.

3.1 Unboxing and Initial Check

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all installation tools (included toolkit) and parts are present.

3.2 Folding Riser and Handlebar Installation

To unfold the scooter, turn the safety buckle counter-clockwise to release the pedal. Hold the red pedal and stand the folded riser upright. Install the handlebar and secure it with the provided nut and nut washer. Tighten the four screws to fix the display unit securely.

3.3 Brake Adjustment

Tighten the nuts of the brakes to fix both sides of the brakes. For optimal safety, ensure the brakes are properly adjusted and responsive. When riding for the first time, ride at a low speed and try to squeeze the brake handle about 10 times repeatedly during riding to ensure normal function before increasing speed.

4. Operating Instructions

Familiarize yourself with the controls and riding modes for a safe and enjoyable experience.

4.1 Power On/Off and Riding Modes

Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to power on the scooter. The display will illuminate. Press the 'M' button to cycle through the three speed modes: Eco (slowest), D (standard), and S (Sport mode for maximum speed up to 23 mph).

4.2 Acceleration and Braking

Use the thumb throttle on the right handlebar to accelerate. Release the throttle to slow down. Apply the brake levers for controlled stopping. The scooter features dual disc brakes for effective stopping power.

4.3 Display Information

The integrated display shows current speed, odometer, trip distance, and battery level. Monitor these indicators to plan your rides effectively.

4.4 Lighting System and Horn

The scooter is equipped with a complete lighting system for visibility and safety, including a front headlight, rear reflector, and turn signals. Use the dedicated switches on the left handlebar to activate lights and the horn.

4.5 Suspension and Tires

The ENGWE Y400 features C-shaped suspension and rear suspension for a smooth ride, minimizing vibration on various terrains. The 10-inch pneumatic fat tires provide superior grip and stability, suitable for sand, gravel, dirt, and snow.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your ENGWE Y400.

  • Battery Charging: Charge the 48V 10.4AH battery using the provided charger. A full charge takes approximately 6 hours. Do not overcharge. The overheating protection system ensures safety during charging.
  • Tire Pressure: Regularly check and maintain the recommended tire pressure for optimal ride quality and tire lifespan.
  • Brake Inspection: Periodically inspect brake pads and cables for wear and tear. Adjust or replace as necessary to ensure effective braking.
  • Cleaning: Clean the scooter with a damp cloth. Avoid using high-pressure water jets directly on electrical components.
  • Storage: Store the scooter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
