Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for effective freeze-drying:

- Prepare Materials:
- Step 1: Clean the materials. Wash fruits, vegetables, or other food items thoroughly to remove any dirt or contaminants.
- Step 2: Slice or dice them. Prepare food items by slicing, dicing, or portioning them into uniform sizes. Smaller, thinner pieces generally freeze-dry faster.
- Load Trays:
- Step 3: Neatly place them on the trays. Arrange the prepared food items in a single layer on the material trays. Do not overload trays, as this can hinder proper drying.
- Slide the loaded trays into the drying chamber.
- Start Freeze-Drying Process:
- Close and secure the chamber door.
- Step 4: Set the freeze-drying process, start the equipment. Use the digital control panel to select the appropriate settings for your food items. The manual will provide guidance on recommended settings for various food types. Initiate the freeze-drying cycle.
- Monitor Progress: The digital display will show the current status of the freeze-drying process, including temperature and vacuum levels. The HFD-4 operates with low noise levels (≤ 60 dB) during operation.
- Unload and Package:
- Once the cycle is complete and the unit has returned to ambient pressure, open the chamber door.
- Step 5: Take out the and proceed with sealing and packaging. Carefully remove the dried food from the trays.
- Immediately package the freeze-dried food in airtight containers or vacuum-sealed bags to prevent moisture reabsorption.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your HFD-4 Freeze Dryer.
- Cleaning the Chamber and Trays: After each use, clean the drying chamber and material trays. Use a soft cloth and mild, food-safe detergent. Ensure all surfaces are dry before the next use.
- Defrosting: Periodically defrost the cold trap. This can be done by turning off the unit and allowing the ice to melt naturally, or by using a gentle heat source (e.g., warm water in a spray bottle, avoiding electrical components). Drain any melted water.
- Vacuum Pump Maintenance: The external vacuum pump requires regular oil changes. Refer to the vacuum pump's specific manual for detailed instructions on oil type, frequency, and the oil drain procedure (visible in Figure 3).
- Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the unit with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
