3. Product Overview and Features
The WAVLINK AC1200 Outdoor Mesh Extender/Router is engineered for robust outdoor Wi-Fi coverage. Key features include:
- 1200Mbps Dual-Band Speed: Supports 5GHz (867Mbps) for high-bandwidth applications like 4K video, and 2.4GHz (300Mbps) for numerous low-bandwidth IoT devices.
- Mesh Network Capability: Utilizes WAVLINK's Everything Mesh Technology for seamless connectivity across large areas, ensuring uninterrupted Wi-Fi as you move. Note: Only meshes with other WAVLINK devices supporting this technology.
- Industrial-Grade Signal: Equipped with a high-power chip and 4x 7dBi omni-directional antennas (2x 2.4GHz + 2x 5GHz) to extend signal up to 300 meters (environment dependent) and support 64-96 simultaneous devices.
- Dual Gigabit Ports & PoE: Features two 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet ports for fast data transfer and flexible wired connections. 54V Active/Passive PoE allows power delivery via Ethernet up to 100m, simplifying outdoor wiring.
- Weatherproof & Secure: IP65 waterproof and heat-resistant enclosure (-20°C to 50°C) with 15KV ESD/4KV lightning protection. Supports WPA2/WPA3-MIX and WPA/WPA2-Enterprise for enhanced security.
- Fat/Fit AP Mode Flexibility: Operates as a standalone wireless AP (Fat AP Mode) or can be centrally managed via a WAVLINK AC Controller (sold separately) in Fit AP Mode for large-scale deployments.

4. Setup and Installation
4.1 Physical Installation
- Attach Antennas: Carefully screw the four 7dBi detachable omni-directional antennas onto the corresponding connectors on the device. Ensure they are finger-tight.
- Mounting: The device supports flexible installation options including wall mounting and pole mounting. Use the provided mounting hardware (screws, anchors, zip ties) to secure the device in your desired outdoor location. Ensure the device is mounted as high as possible for optimal signal propagation.
- PoE Converter Placement: The PoE converter is not waterproof and must be installed indoors.

4.2 Power Over Ethernet (PoE) Connection
The WAVLINK AC1200 utilizes Power over Ethernet (PoE) for both power and data transmission through a single Ethernet cable. This simplifies outdoor installation by eliminating the need for a separate power outlet near the device.
- Connect to PoE Converter: Connect one end of the RJ-45 Networking Cable to the "+POE" port on the PoE converter.
- Connect to Router: Connect the other end of the RJ-45 Networking Cable from the "LAN DATA IN" port on the PoE converter to a LAN port on your existing Wi-Fi router.
- Power the PoE Converter: Plug the power adapter into the "DC IN" port on the PoE converter, and then plug the power adapter into a standard indoor electrical outlet.
- Connect Extender to PoE: Connect an Ethernet cable from the "POE (IN/WAN)" port on the extender to the "+POE" port on the PoE converter.

5. Operating Modes
The WAVLINK AC1200 supports various operating modes to suit different network requirements:
- Mesh Router + Mesh Extender Mode: Creates a seamless mesh Wi-Fi network with other compatible WAVLINK devices.
- AP/Router Mode: Functions as a primary access point or router, distributing Wi-Fi from a wired internet connection.
- Repeater Mode: Extends the range of an existing Wi-Fi network.
- AP + Repeater Mode: Combines access point functionality with signal repetition for broader coverage.
Configuration of these modes is typically done through the device's web interface, accessible via a web browser after initial physical setup.

6. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your WAVLINK AC1200 Outdoor Mesh Extender/Router, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Regular Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the device to remove dust, dirt, and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners directly on the device.
- Inspect Cables: Regularly check all connected cables (Ethernet, power) for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Replace damaged cables immediately.
- Firmware Updates: Check the WAVLINK official website for the latest firmware updates. Keeping the firmware updated ensures improved performance, security, and new features.
- Environmental Considerations: While the device is IP65 weatherproof, ensure the PoE converter remains indoors and protected from moisture.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your WAVLINK AC1200, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Power: Ensure the power adapter is securely plugged into a working electrical outlet and the PoE converter. Check the power LED on the device.
- No Internet Connection: Verify that the Ethernet cable from your main router is correctly connected to the "LAN DATA IN" port on the PoE converter. Check your main router's internet connection.
- Weak Signal: Adjust the position and angle of the device and its antennas. Ensure there are no major obstructions between the extender and your client devices or the main router.
- Cannot Access Web Interface: Ensure your computer is connected to the extender's network (either wirelessly or via Ethernet) and you are using the correct IP address (refer to the Quick Start Guide for default IP).
- Reset to Factory Defaults: If issues persist, you may need to reset the device to its factory default settings. This usually involves pressing and holding a reset button for a specified duration (refer to the Quick Start Guide for exact instructions).
