4. Setup

4.1 Connecting to a Device

The MAGEX portable monitor supports connection via USB-C or Mini HDMI. Ensure the monitor is connected to an external power supply for stable performance, especially when using HDMI or if your device's USB-C port does not provide sufficient power.

4.1.1 USB-C Connection (Full-featured USB-C port required)

  1. Connect one end of the provided USB-C to USB-C cable to a full-featured USB-C port on your device (e.g., laptop, smartphone, tablet).
  2. Connect the other end of the USB-C cable to either Type-C 1 or Type-C 2 port on the monitor.
  3. If your device's USB-C port does not supply enough power, or for optimal stability, connect the provided power adapter to the other USB-C port on the monitor.

Note: For Type-C signal sources, the maximum output is 2880x1800@120Hz. Ensure your device's USB-C port supports video output (DisplayPort Alternate Mode).

4.1.2 HDMI Connection

  1. Connect one end of the provided Standard HDMI to Mini HDMI cable to the HDMI output of your device (e.g., laptop, PC, game console).
  2. Connect the Mini HDMI end of the cable to the Mini HDMI port on the monitor.
  3. Connect the provided power adapter to one of the USB-C ports on the monitor using a USB-C to USB-C cable to supply power.

Note: For HDMI signal sources, the maximum output is 2880x1800@100Hz.

4.2 Adjusting the Kickstand and VESA Mounting

The monitor features an integrated kickstand that can be adjusted up to 90 degrees for optimal viewing angles. For a more permanent setup or to save desk space, the monitor is VESA compatible (75x75mm).

  • Kickstand: Gently pull out the kickstand from the back of the monitor and adjust it to your desired angle.
  • VESA Mounting: The monitor has 75x75mm VESA mounting holes. Use M4x6mm screws (not included) to attach the monitor to a compatible VESA arm or wall mount.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

To power on the monitor, long press the Exit/Power button. To power off, long press the same button again.

5.2 On-Screen Display (OSD) Menu

The OSD menu allows you to adjust various display settings. Press the OSD Menu button to access it.

  • Use the Volume/Up and Brightness/Down buttons to navigate through menu options.
  • Press the OSD Menu button again to select an option or confirm a setting.
  • Press the Exit/Power button to go back or exit the OSD menu.

Common OSD settings include:

  • Brightness/Contrast: Adjust image luminance and distinction.
  • Color Settings: Modify color temperature, hue, and saturation.
  • Input Source: Manually select between USB-C and HDMI inputs.
  • Audio: Adjust volume or mute speakers.
  • HDR Mode: Enable or disable High Dynamic Range.
  • Low Power Mode: Adjust power consumption settings. (Note: To achieve full brightness, ensure the monitor is not in a low power mode setting within the OSD.)

5.3 Audio Output

The monitor includes dual 1W speakers. Audio will be output through these speakers when connected via USB-C or HDMI. You can adjust the volume using the Volume/Up button or through the OSD menu.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Monitor

  • Always power off the monitor and disconnect all cables before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water or a non-abrasive screen cleaner.
  • Do not use alcohol, ammonia-based cleaners, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the screen surface.
  • Avoid spraying liquid directly onto the screen or into any openings.

6.2 Storage and Handling

  • Store the monitor in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • When transporting, use a protective sleeve or case to prevent scratches and impacts, especially given its thin design.
  • Avoid placing heavy objects on the monitor.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your MAGEX portable monitor, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

7.1 No Display / Black Screen

  • Check Power: Ensure the monitor is properly connected to a power source using the provided power adapter or a sufficiently powered USB-C port. The LED indicator should be on.
  • Check Cable Connections: Verify that the USB-C or HDMI cable is securely connected to both the monitor and your device. Try a different cable if available.
  • Input Source: Press the OSD Menu button and navigate to "Input Source" to ensure the correct input (USB-C or HDMI) is selected.
  • Device Compatibility: For USB-C connections, confirm your device's USB-C port supports video output (DisplayPort Alternate Mode).
  • External Power: If using a single USB-C cable for both power and signal, and the screen is unstable or black, connect the external power adapter to the monitor's second USB-C port.

7.2 Image Flickering or Unstable Display

  • Power Supply: Ensure adequate power is supplied to the monitor. Use the included power adapter.
  • Cable Quality: Use the provided cables. Low-quality or damaged cables can cause signal issues.
  • Refresh Rate: Check your device's display settings to ensure the refresh rate is compatible with the monitor's capabilities (up to 120Hz for USB-C, 100Hz for HDMI).

7.3 Incorrect Resolution or Refresh Rate

  • Device Display Settings: Adjust the resolution and refresh rate in your computer's or device's display settings.
  • Cable Type: Ensure you are using the correct cable for desired performance. USB-C supports 2880x1800@120Hz, while HDMI supports 2880x1800@100Hz.

7.4 No Sound from Speakers

  • Volume Level: Check the monitor's volume setting via the OSD menu or the Volume/Up button.
  • Device Audio Output: Ensure your connected device is set to output audio to the MAGEX monitor.
  • Mute Function: Check if the monitor's audio is muted in the OSD settings.
